Trading up...for Joe Thomas?

I realize the that many ppl are against the idea of trading up, wanting to keep as many picks as possible. And, even if the Fins were to trade up, we would want a high profile position player, like Calvin Johnson or a QB. But, has anyone given thought to moving up to 3 or 4 to pick up Joe Thomas? To me, one of the biggest priorities is improving the line, and I would want the top-line offensive lineman. It is clear that he is a level above players like C Kalil, G Grubbs, or T Levi Jones. Does anyone support this idea or would you favor using our the picks we have now to get those second-tier linemen?
 
hmmmph. interesting. never gave that a thought. but my preference would be to trade down. grab satele, grubbs and blaylock.

Just a correction, should be Levi Brown, not Jones. I dont know how Jones and Porter would fair on the same team! :lol:

to make #5, trade #9, #60, #108. IF he makes it to number 5 AND Zona (who also needs a LT) is willing to trade, I'd do it. But that won't happen.

to make #4, trade #9 and #40. I wouldn't do that personally, even if TB was willing.

He won't make it to number 6 or below, so I wouldn't get my hopes up......
 
I am perfectly fine staying at #9 and keeping all of our picks and taking Levi Brown. We need all of our picks to infuse youth onto the team and I think with 10 picks in the draft that, that is a good way start. Randy Mueller is in the driver seat for the draft and he knows what the Dolphins need and knows value and also talent. I can't wait to see the guys that Mueller brings in because I know that youth, value, and talent is on the way.
 
I thought about it, but you have to trade pretty high up in the draft for him.

The Lions look like they want him and if not, the Cardinals need a LT worse than we do (thats saying something).

I admit, there is almost no way that Arizona trades down to us if Thomas is still available. Our only hope would be if C. Johnson was already taken, and the Bucs were looking to move down. The trade would probably work best if we managed to toss in a player along with the #9, but we dont really have anyone to spare, except possibly Renaldo Hill.

Still, I dont really see this possibility happening and admit that I would like us to take the best player available at 9, then using our 2nds on a good lineman, and a young, fast WR. Just thought it was an interesting theory and wondered if there would be any takers on this proposal to move up to get a non-glamorous position player.
 
Why would we do that when Staley has more upside than Thomas. Thomas is better now but Staley is only about 15 pounds from being NFL ready. And he may just be a great one.
 
A franchise LT is a must for any team but you just can't mortgage your whole future to obtain one...especially in a draft inundated w/ O-lineman.

I would, personally, give up quite a bit for a franchise QB. They touch the ball every play! I would give #9 ('07), #40 or #60 ('07) & and next years' 1st Rounder. It's a boom or bust move but at some point you need a franchise QB. At least a servicable one! Hell we've already given up to two 2nd Rounders (Feeley & C-Pep) for QBs that probably won't even be on our roster this year.

If Cam is willing to rip the 2000's image of the Dolphins, both Zach Thomas and JT are more than delicious for any team. JT himself has the trade value for the pick,of course that would be one of the most hideous trades in team's history.
 
While it's true that Cam has turned over many of the team's former players, i simply dont see him getting rid of ZT or JT just yet, especially when JT was the defensive player of the year. each player can play another solid 3 seasons at least, and they anchor our D.

as for mortgaging our entire future, the scenario put up earlier isn't our entire draft stock. there is a possibility of just losing one 2nd rounder, and giving them a player we have in excess and dont need. Also, i REALIZE this is not a very feasible scenario, but would just like to know what other ppl's opinions are. u can't support a franchise QB if he has no one to block for him. u build teams from the inside out, and establishing this o-line of ours is one of the top priorities.
