Can we put some type of tag other than the franchise tag? Something that would allow us to match offers? or receive a draft pick as compensation? Don't know all the rules, so if anyone can help?

The transition tag is usually lower than the franchise tag, but it will still cost 120 percent of Soliai's 2011 salary (they use the higher number of the two).

So regardless of franchise or transition tag, Soliai's number would be upwards of $14 million dollars.

we should have transition tagged him last year the franchise blunder basically kept us from resigning him and eill probably keepo a deal from happening along with his over zealous agent that wanted 30 mill guaranteed last year

That being said we will need to sign another guy unless we are playing 4-3 which would be fine with me since I prefer that defense. Pouha from the jets would work just fine and we wouldnt see a drop in play while we develop a guy long term.

Ireland gave him that leverage when they tagged him.

Also, the fact that they added a deadline to offering Franchise tag players contracts during the season hurt the Dolphins.

I blame Ireland for giving him that leverage little did he know that his agent thinks he is better than any other NT in football of which only this board agrees.
We basically gave him a Wilfork contract and his agent spit on it so oh well.

He is the best nose tackle in football, but I still think we drop him and draft Brockers

Guaranteed money is where it is really at, Phins offered him $18 million, not close to a good offer. I don't blame him for not taking it.

That said, we need to let him walk. With our transition to a hybrid defense, Soliai wouldn't be on the field more than 50% of the snaps anyways.

I agree

maybe next year we can receive compensation for Pauly 3th or 4th 0r 5th round pick
I know it depend on what free agents (not player let go: Manning)we sign this year...

Wilfork, Hampton are too old. I think in terms of value. Ngata is a better overall football player but the Ravens asked him to drop weight and he had a down year, not a true nose like Paul.

Most of the time if a guy is franchised that is included with signing bonus as in the Wilfork contract.Dolphins offered him the same contract it was a very good offer , not it s not Ngata money but Solai is a not close to a Ngata player. His contract equaled 30 million guaranteed I doubt he gets more than 18 mill guaranteed anywhere else but you never know. personally i dont think the second alternate pro bowler is worth it but thats my opinion. Would rather have drafed Rubin any day

Who's better than Soliai boss, Pouha, that nose in San Fran, I don't think so. Seriously who do you think is better or do u just not like Paul? There are plenty of better DT's like Suh but a true nose is a 0 gap tech player.... nevermind.

Wilfork is definately better and he is only 30 years old so lets quit acting like he is ancient.
BJ Raji definately better
Jay Ratliff better
Rubin when he played 3-4 previous year was better and is better at 4-3 than Solai would be also
Hampton is better
Issaac Soapoaga, Sione Pouha and Anthony Garay just as good. He is a very good NT but not the best
