Transition Tag for Solai?

I think paul will be surprised by the offerings he receives this offseason... one good season, does not make him an elite NT....

i can see him going to kansas city and becoming somebody you dont hear about much.

all the while, you will continue to hear about the hamptons, wilforks, and ngatas of the league...

Yea dont tell his agent he hasnt done as much as these guys lol

I dont know how any team can play a NT with one good season 27 million esp when Wilfork only got 25 million and he is an alltime great. They essentially offered him the same contract but with a little less guaranteed that being 18 million which is pretty damn fair based on his performance. I say screw him and his agent and lets move on, we can spend our money better elsewhere, let some other team deal with these primadonnas , hell sign Pouha and develop a guy there wont be a drop off

We will move on and it is the right decision.

All contract starting points are based off of past contracts and influences.

By Ireland putting the tag on, he gave Soliai all the leverage.

It shouldnt have been that way because most players in his situation would have made the deal we offered because the tag is always included in these negotiations but unlike the best NT in football wilfork his agent decided to try to hold us for ransom and ignore the tag in negotiations. I mean if you dont include franchise tag why even negotiate until the next offseason because you gain nothing as the team. We should have transitioned tagged Solai which would have been much cheaper but whats done is done and by all accounts Ireland does not want to sign Solai long term which I applaud him for at the price Soliai is asking. Let someone else overpay him

All the transition tag does is give the front office the ability to match a contract offer he gets. That doesn't make him any more likely to stay, in my opinion...

Franchise tag numbers are included in deals just as often. One of the issues with Brees and his contract is that tagging him for three years in a row will mean he should get at least $64 million guaranteed on his new deal.

That kind of an issue arises anytime a player is tagged. Not saying Soliai is worth $30 million guaranteed, just saying its a reason why they were so far apart on the money.

If Phins were serious about keeping him, they could have raised that guaranteed number. It just shows they weren't certain they wanted to invest that much in him.

In hindsight it was the right move because now we can use that money elsewhere and transition to a full time 4-3 since Coyle seems to want to move that direction.

Solai's agent will run him out of town for more money. If Solai like playing in Miami, he will have to rein him in.
Otherwise, we can draft another run stuffer and move on from Paul Solai.
It kind of sucks because the team waited on him( a few lack luster seasons) to finally reach his potential, and now he would turn his back on the organization that made him the player he is today.
