HOT: Gus Frerotte and A.J. Feeley had their moments in the morning practice. Feeley hit back-to-back TD passes, and Frerotte looked impressive on some deep throws -- especially a 35-yard TD pass to Derrius Thompson, who beat Sam Madison on the play.

NOT: The Dolphins expect a lot from cornerback Travis Daniels, but he was burned on back-to-back plays in the morning practice. Chris Chambers caught the first one, and Josh Davis beat Daniels on the next play. Both passes were from Feeley.

I continue to be absolutely stoked about how our deep passing game is blossoming right in front of our eyes, with every day seems to come a much better practice with deep balls to go around (Chambers, Boston, Davis, Welker, Thompson being the usual recipients).

But this is a couple of days in a row that I've heard that Daniels was being smoked on the regular on some of these deep balls. I have to wonder, we're trying to go deep to get that involved in our offense, but by doing that so constantly, you're going to eventually have success...and is that success going to ruin Daniels' confidence? You don't want to frustrate him into thinking he can't keep up with NFL caliber WRs. There's no reason Josh Davis should be beating him deep, though we can all understand if Chambers does.

Also, btw, I'm starting to get a little concerned about Booker. He seems to be the guy that's left out of these highlight reels most often.

yeah when i read that i was getting worried too... but i dont think it'll effect his confidence much, im more concerned that maybe technique wise and knowledge of the system hes ahead of hte curve, but in actual game situations hes sitll a rookie and could get beat often

You are right about Booker, i havent heard much about it him....

anyone have info on him for this year?

Lets hope that it is not confidence, i dont think he or Saban will allow that to happen. I would hope that Daniels and Saban have a good enough relationship where Daniels can go to Saban with those type of concerns.

I think, for a rookie, Daniels has looked great. Much better than expected. He certainly doesn't look like your typical rookie when he's on the field....

He was beaten a couple times, sure it's bound to happen now and then. Madison gets burnt just the same. I think Daniels will be the opening day starter in replace of Poole....

I'm more than happy with him from what I've seen....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Madison has been telling him it's not about the player he's facing, it's about the scheme. He's right, Daniels hasn't seen real NFL schemes. Hopefully he'll see more Monday night.

My only question would be, was this in 11-on-11's??

I guess we'd have a better answer for the main question if we knew Travis Daniels as a person. Being a CB is all about mental toughness. Can this ROOKIE take the knocks that comes with starting at one of the most difficult positions for a rookie to play??

IMO, the best medicine for his confidence is a strong pass rush. And it's going to have to happen in preseason games because our QBs just have not been turning the ball over (big ups goes out to Saban, Scott Linehan and Jason Garrett here). If we can get to opposing QBs, they're going to start heaving it up to his side of the field. And that's when he'll start defending passes and picking up INTs.

I'm also concerned about Booker. He's been invisible in these reports. Is his heart still in Chicago??

Neither of them would have much of a choice about it. Losing confidence as a corner isn't like being depressed, it's not something you can go to the coach and talk about. It's a process where you begin to question your abilities, not take certain things for granted anymore, and it slows down your reactions and causes you to be readable.

It's safe to say that the past few days Daniels has been toasted on the regular. I'm just saying it's kind of alarming.

It has nothing to do with losing confidence. The deep ball is the play that Travis struggles most with. He will need some help over the top for those plays. If he didn't have some weakness, he would have been a first rounder and not a fourth rounder.

I'm thinking all this work on the long ball is going to mean less Booker just because it's not his forte. When game time comes around and the QBs are more worried about TO's they won't be throwing so many deep passes and will start looking underneath for open receivers to keep the chains moving, I think Booker's name will start coming up more often when that happens.

I agree Muck. When the DL starts forcing QBs into bad decisions, hopefully Daniels will start plucking a few from the sky, giving him back some more confidence.

Would you rather build up false confidence in Daniels only to have him shredded when he faces another team? If he's going to get burned let it be in practice. He should respond by working harder to learn his position so that he doesnt get burned so much. If he responds by losing confidence in himself and giving up then he would never have made it in the NFL anyway.

I have been trying to explain this to some people on this board. Booker has looked excellent in practice. He just isnt a flashy type of receiver like Chambers. He also doesnt have that blazing type speed that catches your eye like Chambers or Boston. So Booker never gets that much attention. However he is extremely consistant and relieable. He catches pretty much everything thown his way and WILL be the #2 come opening day...

Now... about Daniels. He really doesnt get beat often at all. He is always in great posistion and occasionally one of the QBs will just have a great throw. However, I think Daniels still might be slightly feeling the effects of that muscle he strained last week... Its nothing to worry about... Daniels will be fine... but you all have to remember, he still is a rookie. Antrell Rolle will get beat a few times this year. And so will Pac Man Jones and Carlos Rogers... its going to happen a couple of times this season. I gaurentee it. So dont have a heart attack and call him a bust when it does...

EDIT:
Oh... and Daniels hasnt been being burned on the "regular"... Only a few times... Alot of the deep passes are more the QBs throwing great deep passes than Daniels just getting burnt. Both QBs deep balls have generally been impressive... especially Feeleys

Nasty

It is training camp. Its amazing how well he is doing to begin with. There may have been 10 or 20 excellent plays he made. I wouldn't worry too much we will be fine.

Booker never has been a great deep threat, more a possesion reciever with maybe some yac. You probably won't hear much in TC.
