As you know, Travis rushed 5 for 25yds and executed a screen pass for 20yds (and for anybody who saw the game may agree he could have had more if he cut right instead of left behind the lead block) when we really needed it.

My question is, are we discounting him too early?

He will miss this game, but how much do we use him in the future, and can we discount his preseason performance as just that, preseason?

Or do we just continue using him on 3rd downs with Gordon here?

I like Minor but I am very curous to see Gordon with some practise time. It seemed Minor had a hell of a time in preseason but blame that on the oline.

Minor is and always will be a 3rd down back. I think he can help as a 3rd down back, but we shouldn't count on him much more than that. JMO

Minor was pretty impressive when he played in the Tennessee game

If Gordon comes in and plays well enough to the point where you cant take him out then its too bad for Travis because he looked like he coulda done good for us..

If Gordon fails (Which I hope he doesnt) then he will get his chance back.

I think Minor could be succesful behind in a scheme like denvers or maybe even indy. I dont think he is good for wannys 1 yard and a cloud of dust x 50 philosophy.

Exactly.
People don't understand his role and when he comes in with fresh legs or on 3rd downs facing different defenses and makes plays they automically think Minor all of a sudden now is an every down back. Not so. He has shown to be a very reliable and valuable 3rd down and change of pace back. He is not a tough pound it out and break tackles for extra yards every down back.

It suprises me how many fans really don't undestand the concept of situational players, what their roles are, why they are good at specific situations and why because of limitations in other areas of their game they should mostly be used only in those specific situations.

I agree with you Trek, if Gordon works out and becomes the pownding back we'll see Minor's production come back in 3rd downs and as a change of pace back.

All I'm trying to point out is after the preseason Minor lost his credit with a lot of fans. Does he deserve it back after Saturday's game?

There were some folks (he he, I said folks :D ) in here saying to trade him or start Leonard over him b/c he ran for like -6,000 yards on 20 or so attempts in the preseason.

He played well against Tenn before he got knicked.I believe the RB situation is beggining to solidify and of course I am anxious to see "Slash"Gordon play.

What has he done to prove that he isnt an everydown back?? I think Sun he did a good job of being an everydown back. It suprises me how some people think that just because somebody played in certian situations in this league in the years before, they are never going to become anything more.

Some of you overeacting to his performance.

He didn't make it through the first half!

Part of being an everydown back is durability.

I think he will be fine getting more touches but not 25-30 ala Ricky.
If Wanny is smart(?) he'll use all of his backs and not run one in the ground.

Travis is a good bback, but Gordon will be the feature back, Travis is and will be a change of pace back. He may be able to carry the load, but a fresh Travis is better.

Injury's can happen to anybody. It doesnt make a difference who you are if you are on that field you have a chance of being injured. None of our backs should get that many touches anyway. The ball should be going through the freaking air. I'm still with Minor until Gordon proves himself. I really hope that Gordon turns out to be this great back that everybody thinks that he is, but I still havent seen it. We have only seen one game though, it will be interesting to watch.
