OK, so I'm watching NFL Total Access on the NFL Network and there is a guy talking about Miami being the only suitor for Green and they mentioned how Culpepper would probably be released should the deal happen because teams can't afford to have 2 expensive QBs on their roster, like in the Texans situation where Carr will now be traded/released because Schaub just signed a big deal and they can't afford both. That got me thinking about a bunch of scenerios:

1: If we sign Green, do we still target Quinn? I'm asking from what the team may be thinking, not what we as fans want. All along the prospect of drafting Quinn and signing Green to run the offense for a year or two and mentor Quinn in the process has had me salivating. However, with all these reports that Green comes with an expensive contract, and that the trade talk is slowed because he has a big price tag and we want him to renegotiate to a veterens minimum deal, it has me worried. Like the guy said, teams can't afford two top paid QBs on their roster, and if we were to release Daunte if we sign Green because they are too expensive to keep both, how would we sign Quinn and Green? It would be the same situation. I hope to god our pick isn't Trent Green over Brady Quinn.

2: If Green won't take the pay cut and we don't get Quinn in the draft or the management isn't even considering taking him, do we still target Green, or do we target Carr? We all know if a trade isn't made for either they will jsut be released, so if Green is coming with an expensive contract, do we go for Carr instead, who is 10 years younger for a similar amount of money? I know Carr is basically unproven, and I'm not saying he will be anything great, but on the other hand, Green DEFINATELY isn't the same after that concussion, so if we are going to sign an expensive "damaged goods" QB, wouldn't CARR make more sense since he has the youth and seems to have more of an upside (untapped potential as opposed to Green who seems to have lost his edge and confidence after the injury)?

Ideally I'd like to see the Raiders take Russell, the Lions take CJ, the Browns take Peterson, the Bucs and Skins take someone that isn't Quinn (neither need him), the Vikings sign Carr, we sign Trent Green to the veterens minimum contract (or something a LOT cheaper than his current contract) and then draft Quinn, and we trade Culpepper for another draft pick. That probably won't pan out like that at all, but that's my ultimate scenerio.

Anyway, what does everyone else think of the 2 situations I mentioned above?

Its uncanny thats exactly what I want to happen. But I also think the same situation except replace Quinn's name with Stanton, Beck, or Kolb would work too.

Sounds good to me as well, although I wouldn't spend anything before pick 60 on Stanton and I'm not sold on Kolb. So yeah, ideally Green and Lemon will fight it out for the starting job and Quinn will be waiting in the wings.

If Green is signed, it probably would warrant us getting Quinn more. Green's got no more than 1-2 years left in the tank, which is perfect for getting Quinn ready. Stanton and Kolb could take 3-4 years to groom because of their shortcomings even though they'd be rightfully cheaper.

i would like your ideal situation to come true,:D it would be a great way to start the draft

We are not the only suiters for Trent Green as he was in Jacksonville last week. Having two high priced QBs on the roster probably will not be feasible but Cam did say in his press conference that "whoever the starting QB end up being, they would have earned the job." So don't look for any of the QB to be given the job.

I don't see why we wouldn't, especially if he's there when we pick or Green is has the inside track to being the next starting QB for us.

With Carr just getting released, it may be more prudent to go after Carr than Green. But will Carr suffer from what Harrington did last year. Trying to get over being in a bad situation with his last team.

As far as being the only suitors, I was just reporting what the guy on the show said.

With regards to the "if we sign Green do we still draft Quinn" thing, I meant because of the money situation, not the fact that I think Green should be a good enough QB for us to pass on Quinn. IDK if thats what you thought I meant or not, so I just wanna clear it up. The reason I asked is because of the "teams aren't going to keep two high-priced QBs" thing. I was wondering if we have to sign Green to his current big contract if we would, because Quinn will get #9 money, which will also be a huge contract. I was more asking in terms of how everyone thought management may be thinking, if everyone thought management is looking to Green to be our new QB or is they are looking to Green to be a mentor and a fill in for a year or two.

I agree with Carr getting a Harrington syndrom, but at the same time, if there is no Quinn and we need either Green or Carr to be our new QB, I'd still rather take my chances on Carr. They are both "damaged goods" so to speak, being that Carr had a horrid time in Houston and Green has been completely different after that hit, but at least Carr is like 10 years younger so we can work with him more, and he still has an upside, whereas Green is old and was already starting to fade BEFORE the hit.

We wouldnt trade for Green if he wont cut his price. But his agent said the contract isnt a problem anymore, just compensation for the Chiefs. I cant imagine we're trading for a 36 year old QB with plans of him being our future. I cant see us passing on Quinn because of Green.

Neither can I, but we've done some things I never thought we would in past drafts/free agency/trades so there's always this looming "things are going to smoothly and there will be a major screw-up any second now" feeling. I know Cam isn't Wanny or even Saban, but still. I never thought Saban would make bone-headed decisions and he did, so I'm just not very trusting of our staff, and I hope Cam changes that, because I like the guy and WANT to trust him.

Good point. I can definitely understand why'd you be cautious about thinking this team would make a smart move.

I understood what you meant. I still don't think it would have any bearing on drafting Quinn if he's available.

Taken into account the latest on the Green's situation, he will not come here as a high priced QB but at or near the league's minumum for veterans with some kind of accelerants if he wins the starting job.
