Dolphins | Green contract update

Wed, 13 Jun 2007 10:40:21 -0700

Craig Barnes and Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, report Miami Dolphins QB Trent Green's three-year deal is worth $13.5 million with a $1.5 million signing bonus, according to a source. Green will receive base salaries of $4.5 million in 2007 and $7.5 million in 2008 and 2009 combined.

I thought we were going to pay Green "The veterans minimum". I mean is this a reasonable salary?

We were never going to pay him the veterans minimum. Green is getting starters money, which is exactly what he is for the Dolphins. Though, he will be making less then what Daunte would have.

backloaded, cool with me. if he wants to stay on as a backup beginning in 2008, he'll have to restructure.

actually its not, it says hes making 4.5 this year, and the 7.5 combined the next two... so it could be for 08/09 like 4/3.5...

but either way its reasonable...

Essentially, it's a 2-year contract.

Maybe one depending on Beck's development this year.

I agree, it's very fair. Especially if he and this offense are able to accomplish what I think they are and will. It's going to be so great to watch a quarterback that gets it. Understands the offense and where to attack the defense. Green's ability combined with actually finally having an offensive minded coach are going to contribute to a greatly improved offensive football team. All those decisions that are made by defensive head coaches when it comes to punting or going for it, or what play to call on 3rd and 2 or 1 will be more appreciated having an offensive minded head coach than a defensive, play not to lose/conservative, head coach. I'm excited to have Green here running this offense. He brings our offense what Drew Brees brought to New Orleans. Consistentcy and veteran moxie.

Theres also a clause in his contract that states if we go into the playoffs and/or superbowl he gets a substantial amount of bonus money.

yeah i wont complain if he gets his bonuses because that means we have a good team and finally goes to the playoffs

its not only fair but also rather cheap. most starters make more especially when you combine the fact he got a VERY small signing bonus

Better than the 8 mill for 1 win ,we got with CPep!
