Trent Green's deal with the Dolphins seems very fair ... maybe a little too fair for a 36-year-old guy who ended last year on such shaky ground with the Chiefs.

He'll make $6 million this year, with an extra $2.45 million in incentives based on the Dolphins going far into the playoffs and Green playing at least 75 percent of the snaps.

Here's an interesting fact: Green will be cheaper than Culpepper would have been, had the Dolphins chose to stick with the former Vike. This year, minus incentives, Green's $6 million is $500,000 less than what Culpepper was set to make. And over the three years of Green's contract, if he stays, he'll make $13.5 million; Culpepper would have made $17.5 million.

When you think of the deal in that way -- considering the comfort level Cam Cameron has with Green (they bonded as assistant and backup while with the Redskins) and that Cameron did not have with Culpepper, this is a logical signing. But it won't be very logical if the Dolphins have to play Cleo Lemon while paying Green $6 million.

Heh. King either has his facts wrong or can't do math. Green will be more expensive than Culpepper. Green's $6M is $500K more than what Culpepper was set to make.

Still way too much. Should have been in the 2-3 mil a season for this guy who is another question mark going into the season. I am actually shocked they have him at 6 million coming off injury and at his age. he better produce

what were they smoking when they gave him that deal ?

Wow, much more than I thought he was going to make. I was thinking 3 million w/ nice incentives as a MAX offer. 6 million + incentives. . . that is alot for a QB comming off of a sub par year and a major concussion. Hope he is worth is.

Well he is worth more than Culpepper becasue at least he can get on the field and play. Culpepper isn't worth a nickel because he can't even pass a physical.

May be going on Cap numbers. I believe Daunte was set to make 5.5mil base. I also read that cutting Daunte will cause a 600K+ cap hit. So his cap number would have been around 6.1 or 6.2mil

King still cant do math, but technically,Green will be cheaper than Culpepper unless the incentive clause kicks in.

Of course you could say that Greens cost should include the cap hit for cutting/trading Culpepper since it will happen only because we got Green.
If thats the case then Green would indeed be about 500k more expensive than Daunte.

from what i heard he already pass his physical.

Wow based of those numbers I can tell that Green (unless he gets hurt) will eventually cost you that 4th round pick.

I do not see a QB that will be overpayed like that not meeting that 70% snap count

With that kind of salary, I'm sure they are expecting Green to carry this team deep into the playoff; otherwise a waste of money.

Let's be honest here ....

IF he achieves those incentives .... then I would have to believe that most folks on this site would be pretty happy with the results !!

Green did not come here for any other reason than to win as many games as possible this year -- and 'maybe' next ... the 'mentoring' piece is just a bonus for Beck ...

But given the current health status of DC and Green ... I choose Green. Yes, Green is 1 good hit away from retirement ... but DC isn't ... heck, he still and probably will never be even close to 100% again.

Green can get the most out of this offense THIS year ... better than even a healthy DC -- why, because he already knows, understands and can run this system ... for DC, it would take at LEAST THIS year to learn the new system

The NFL is win now .... and Green [given our current roster] gives us the best chance to do just that ...

It's after June 1. Cutting Daunte now will result in $5.5M saving in 2007 with $1.4M dead money, and $4.2M dead money in 2008.
