If a very expensive free agent is recruited and fails dismally to the point where every single fan can see it, then the player in question eventually gets cut.
In the case of Gibril Wilson, a former Giants Super Bowl winning safety, we all had high expectations but it now looks pretty certain that he is a monumental bust and is worse than the player he replaced in Renaldo Hill.
Do Parcells/Ireland/Sparano now cut their losses, admit that even Al Davis was right in cutting Wilson after one year and do the same or do they try to give him another chance? I hope that they admit the mistake and cut him, but I'm not confident. I welcome your thoughts...

I don't know anything about his contract and how much of a hit we'd have. But, I'd be poised to cut the guy loose!

Gibril Wilson SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!

What ever BP does will be fine.

GW was a very active safety prior to his yr here. Since entering the NFL and becoming a starter, this will be his worst yr in terms of #number of tackles.

In his only yr at Oak. he had almost a 100 tackles(95).

Why? Was he active and had a heat sinker of an instinct, or was it that he was a weak link and opposing qb's were taking advantage? I don't have game films.

Then, what BP does, I'm fine.

I believe if no CBA is reached, which will likely be the case, he'll be gone. If there is one reached, we pretty much have no choice but to keep him until his contract his up. It would just be too expensive to let him go.

Hopefully the light comes on if we do have to keep him, I think his whole career he has been more of a system guy, and has never really been asked to be the leader of the secondary, so now he's being asked to take on a role he has never had to do before. With success comes failure though.

I don't know what the **** is up with him dropping picks, missing footballs right in front of him, and missing tackles though.

There is a pretty good FA safety class this year, and I would rate it as the #1 position of need for us, although I know most will disagree with that. I really hope we sign someone, or at least draft someone on first day that can take over. Gibril really isnt a good fit to do what our scheme asks him to do. We either need to change his role or cut him.

According to the coaches he was playing better towards the end of the year. Would he be better in year two of being in the same scheme with the same coaches? I would think so. Let's hope so because i don't think he is going anywhere.

His skills don't seem to mesh well with what we needed this year.

His coverage is pretty much awful. He's a quality pass rusher and run stopping safety. Unfortunately with rookie corners starting and a LB core that has zero pass coverage skills he takes the fall every week.

If we have the same LBs next year or rookies it seems he will need to be a reserve or just cut.

My thought is yes Wilson has had a bad year even by his own admission. However, since the coaches have not tried to replace him with Culver or Clemmons I wonder if they think the problem is all on Wilson. Pretty much everyone agrees our LBs need a major upgrade and they can't keep up with TEs and RB out in routes. So my thought is Wilson over compensating on helping covering the TEs and RBs in short to mid range routes and getting himself out of position to help with the deep coverage.

TS hasn't been shy about benching players he feels is not getting it done, Porter, Ginn, Thomas, Merling, Soliai... So I am not sure he would play Wilson just out of spite.

I know most are not going to agree, and that's fine, I am not making an excuse just looking at it with and open opinion.

just a thought maybe switch bell and gibril ? bell is more than fast enough to keep up at fs and has better hands ss suits gibril a little better imo

I understand covering up a hole on the defense or not knowing what assignments a player has on a play, but my god Wilson has been awful there was the two easy dropped INTs(indy-Hou) there was Dallas Clark just rolling him on the first play of the game and many other plays...yea ok maybe he is better but this type of performance is unacceptable.

I also agree theat TS handling of Wilson is curious in that far more productive players have been benched for lack of production.

If no new CBA is reached, he's gone. There is absolutely no logical explanation that Bill, Jeff, or Tony can give as to why they should keep him. It's not like Gibril had a slump at he beginning of the season, or the middle of the season, or at the end of the season. Wilson has been GOD-AWFUL all year. Worst play I have ever seen from an NFL safety. Again, how does he have a Super Bowl ring?

If this regime truly does practice what they preach, they'll cut Wilfor... err... I mean, Wilson as soon as they have the chance. In my mind, there is absolutely no reason as to why he should be kept around. I can't think of a thing, I honestly can't. This guy sucks that BADLY. Get rid of him, an absolute embarassment to the Miami Dolphins uniform.
