After gleaning bits of wisdom from the vast stores of knowledge found on finheaven which are germane to the coming Falcons-Fins battle;
I submit the following hypothesis... Gus stinks, Vick bites and the team which can pound the ball gets a W.

If this is plausible, please answer the following.


Which team leads the NFL in rushing yds/game?

Which team leads NFL in yards/game?

Which team leads NFL in yards/attempt?

Which team has gained under 100 yards three times this season?

Who has the best aroma therapy supply in Miami?:goof:
 
As I mentioned in another post, statistically, these two teams are very close. The Falcons lead the league in rushing by a good margin, no one else is really close, but they don't pass a lick. Dolphins offense is more balanced, with both teams averaging very close to the same total yards per game. Defensively their stats are very similar. Even the penalty yards are very close. The stats tell me this will be a close game.

How many running QBs have won a superbowl?

And last but not least...

Why, oh why, do falcons fans really think they even have a chance to win a super bowl with a team focused on just one guy? Tampa bay used to rock Vicks house. You stop Vicks running you stop Vick. He is a horrible Qb and will never beat you with his arm. Case closed.

Very True...I say dont pressure him by giving him wide open lanes just play spy all game and let him try and beat you with his arm
 
Denver ranks #2 in rushing offense. And we had little trouble shutting them down. We match up well with them overall. And we were able to dominate the LOS against their small, finesse-style OL.

However I think that game was a little different. Denver started running out of gas in the second quarter (heat). And it probably won't be very hot this Sunday in Miami. The Dolphins were much healthier defensively than they are right now. And Michael Vick is much more dangerous than Jake Plummer.

Still, I don't think it matters who ranks where. We have a habit of beating teams we're not supposed to beat. Especially at home. IMO it's going to come down to two things.

1) Whoever wins up front.
It's the age old addage. Whoever controls the LOS wins. It's that simple. If you can't run, you can't win. Vick can't hit anyone not named Crumpler. And Frerotte can't hit anyone with a name on the back of his jersey.

2) Gus Frerotte hitting his receivers.
That's pretty much what has seperated us from being 5-2/6-1. If Gus has an out of body experience and actually connects with open receivers, I think the Falcons are in trouble because our receivers WILL get open. They do every week regardless of who's covering them. Gus leaves easy TDs on the field every week. And three of our losses could have been wins if he'd have connected on just one of these TD passes each week.

Steve Young, Doug Johnson, Roger Staubach, John Elway to name a few.
Barry Sanders. Offense based entirely around him, everyone knew he was getting the ball but it made no difference because they couldn't stop him.

Steve Young, Roger Staubach and John Elway were all very accomplished passers that were fully capable of tucking the ball and running. Mike Vick is a very accomplished runner that is not a very capable passer. Don't confuse the two. BTW, What does Doug Johnson have to do with this conversation????

THANK YOU!!! You beat me to it. I was referring to QBs who are JUST runners. If vick cant run then thats it for the falcons. Its sad but true. And his recievers pose no threat what so ever.

let me add to this by saying that most playoff teams have a good D and can stop the run. Just like last year like when against the Eagles D Vick will be a none factor and the run will be takin away, no way the Falcons go to the superbowl
 
actually, the NFC stinks so the Falcons MIGHT have a chance to get to the superbowl but than a team like the Colts, Pats or Steelers will hand the Falcons a big loss

the falcos are also first in VD's. and frankly 2nd place isn't even close
