They're saying he might get released after an injury settlement with the bills.
Troy says he'll be healthy in 3 weeks.

Might we bring back the player we drafted back in 92? (or was it 90?).

A smart, crafty veteran back there sure would help things.

Just an idea....

It's not that I think it is a bad idea, but at this point I don't know that Vincent has the necessary speed to play with this defense. I mean, if we were going to go that route, we might as well give Schulters a call cuz at least he already knows the D.

Personally, I am VERY comfortable with what we have now, even though it seems everyone loves to trash on them. They'll be singing a different tune when they continue holding teams to like a 5 ypa passing without making the same communications errors they made vs. the Steelers.

Vincent no longer has the speed to play CB. He would have to be a safety. At his age, he should only be considered a bandaid solution for a team that is pretty desperate for safety help.

I dunno, I think you go ahead and you make the talent evaluation. The only young player in the secondary that can be worse than a veteran like Vincent and still make it on the roster due to potential would be Jason Allen. Other than that, if Vincent looks better than Michael Lehan at corner, I don't see why you don't make the move even with the age.

I think too many coaches are reluctant to add aged veterans that are obviously better than younger players...erring on the side of the potential. But active evaluation means figuring out just where that young player has the potential to be in a year or two and if you don't see him being a very good starter then I don't see much reason for keeping him over someone better. You have to be willing to be wrong every now and then...you have to be willing to let Marc Bulger go and not think it's the end of the world just because he ended up a pro bowl caliber player on the Rams.

That's why when teams are rebuilding I always get confused when they maintain a young roster. The important thing is to establish the patterns necessary for success, and IMO that means getting veterans that know the business, know how to establish winning patterns, and then getting some young people under them that can inherit the establishment of patterns that lead to success.

The secondary will also be a lot better when we actually get some pressure on our Blitz......

No Pressure on blitz = Time in the pocket = Nearly always a big play for the offense

Generally, I agree...but that did not really come into play against the Steelers. Our pressure was not consistent, but that doesn't change the fact that two of the TDs were simple miscommunications errors, and one was a chemistry issue in the zone handoff (not to mention a fantastic throw and catch).

During the preseason I did not see our DL getting real consistent pressure but they were getting sacks, because the coverage was just that good.

True, but if you get pressure on the QB (especially a guy like Batch) He wont have time to read the defense and see that miscommunication, or maybe not be able to put enough on the throw.

So you never know what could have happened, obviously on the 80+ yard TD it didnt matter though, it was a short pass

So was the Hines Ward TD. The Nate Washington pass was not a short pass, but as I recall he floated it on the vertical after only a 3-step drop. He didn't take a lot of time to throw that ball.

I totally agree.. we've done just that here in Miami. Especially with our D... we've drafted young.. But we've signed good FAs who can mentor these players down the road, yet still give you a team that can compete with some consistency. I like the way Saban in building this team.
