I think it is awesome that Mr. Ross wants to "go big" with his coach and QB.

I trust that he will try to do this, but I want to make sure he thinks the "big names" are same in this forum.

We KNOW that Cowher, Gruden and Fisher are the big names. However, does Ross think that names like Martz, Mangini and Miles are big names too? Also, getting an elite QB is easier said than done.

Therefore, I will give Ross the benefit of the doubt. However, I do not want Ross spinning that someone of lesser standards is the "big name".
Ross' work is cut out for him come January to deliver. There will be competition amongst other teams, colleges and networks will be intense. His biggest single moment as a billionaire owner is coming due this January.

Martz would definitely be a step back (if that's even possible) because he has his way of doing things, and doesn't seem to care if the personnel fit his system. It's almost as stupid as hiring a coordinator whose roster doesn't fit the system they want to run. Forty years ago, you may have been able to get away with that and mold the team over a period of a few seasons to match the system. But today, where everyone wants to win the Super Bowl by October, no one has the patience to wait.

Michael

We must be prepared to get a "2nd tier" guy. Does not mean he will be bad, but the candidates could all be scooped up.

I think Ross knows who the "big name" guys are. Though I do think Les Miles will probably be on his short list being a Michigan man and currently coaching the #1 team in college football. Though I think Cowher and Fisher will be the top targets.

I think Ross would prefer the splashy coach hire(think Cowher, Gruden to a lesser extent Fisher) first and foremost. He knows he needs to do something to re-energize the fan base.
Ironically a lot of this would depend on if we have the first pick or not.
If we do then we become a much more attractive job than if we don't.
Sad as it is I think Luck will change the perception that much.

If we don't get one of those guys then he will go after the GM type name.

Does Urban Meyer get into the mix?

The Big Show Mike Holmgren?

I said in a thread over the weekend that we sit here and talk about Cowher, Gruden and Fisher. There is a good chance we do not get any of them. Who is the next group of names?

We need an offensive guy IMO..Tony is an offensive guy I guess but we all know he does not know his *** from a hole in the ground..

I either want Josh Mcdaniels or Andy Reid...

Reid would be my first choice if he becomes available.

What about Schott Liehnahan too?

Josh McDaniels will not be a head coach in the NFL for many years. His personell decisions bordered on lunacy.
Just like Mangini before him he will be one of those Belicheck protege's that left the nest too early, tried to copy papa's ways in another place and failed doing so.

The way St. Louis' offense is going right now not sure you can hang your hat on him being a genius.
Some people are meant to be coordinators.

Les Miles wouldn't leave LSU for Michigan and I doubt he would leave for the Dolphins.

Jeff Fisher is on the "Big List" of preferred coaches for us? Doesn't even crack my top 10 let alone top 3 but unfortunately at this point 95% of any available coaches will be an improvement over what we currently have. Please stop even mentioning or putting the name Mangini in print here though, Ross might just stick to his usual bargain basement-Penny Saving ways again and put this bum on his short list.

Dungy and Luck.
Dungy and Manning after the Colts beat us in the suck for Luck campaign we bring both in.
How about Palmer and Marty.
Romo and Ryan. I can see the cowboys giving up on Romo.
JJ and Switzer. JJ runs personel Switzer run the team.
Irvin and Newton. We wont win a game but everyone will be so high it wont matter.

You couldn't have put this in the same thread? Your personal opinion about the same topic deserves its own thread?
