“Really, you just want guys that are competitive, that love football, have passion for the game, are football smart and are driven to succeed,” Grier said. “Coaches can’t always push guys. You want guys who are going to push themselves and basically just love to compete. It’s what we’ve talked about from Day 1, just bringing competitive players (in that) we love, that love football.”

That’s a whole lotta “love.” A week later, when the Dolphins took offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil in the first round, the reasoning was predictable.

“He loves football,” Grier said.

On and on it went, in both last year’s draft and this year’s: Receiver Leonte Carroo “loves football,” guard Isaac Asiata has “a love for football” and cornerback Cordrea Tankersley is another of those who “love the game.”

Today, we know better.

So Gase called out players but he only named one. That was Ajayi. He's already killed Drakes snaps and Williams hasn't done squat this year after getting his biggest payday (and wanting more). How is he going to handle it? Is he going to back up his statement about playing the guys that do their job? How do you bench Ajayi when you don't trust the guys behind him?

Was he also referring to Landry?

He's in a tough spot here. Not sure how this gets addressed. Hopefully the culprits handle their own business and start putting in the work.

Who else does not know their assignments?

Did he name Ajayi? I thought Williams was also at fault a few times. I thought he just called out the RBs as a whole.

Carroo played 50 snaps last week. He may end up getting more looks if the other WRs aren't putting in the work. Rashawn Scott is also back and could get some playing time.

Gase has pointed out that running back Jay Ajayi needs to do a better job with his decision-making, saying he needs to accept four- and five-yard gains and not try to get touchdowns on every run.

“It’s on the running back,” Gase said. “Do your job. That’s what you’ve got to do. It’s not hard.”

He mentioned Ajayi in to context that he was "Trying to hit home runs every play when sometimes we just need that 4 or 5 yards".

Not certain about the "blow assignment" department. Sounds more like "Do your job" thing to me.

From listening to the presser, my take was that our WR's are not putting in the time...

Maybe you could even include Tunsil as well..

"Starts with the best players" has to mean Landry in my mind...

Especially after Landry getting heated after the game talking about how we won 3 straight...

News Flash Jarvis, those three wins don't mean piss....

Titans had a backup QB and we barely won, we had no business winning against ATL of NYJ...

Does Juice get dealt in the next 24 HRs? I guess that would answer our question......

I understand Ajayi's frustration, which could maybe explain why he's trying so hard to get the "big play" every time he touches the football.

He became a star RB last year, and so far he's failed to live up to that. Which granted, it hasn't been his fault. He's proven he can produce behind a semi-decent OL, which unfortunately we don't have this year.

But if he's more worried about his fantasy points than the success of this offense, Gase has every right to be upset.

It's sad how year after year things keep on coming out that make the team look bad. It's being one bad thing after the other for years now. The drafting has been bad for years and years. Free agency? That's been horrible for us. Bullygate. Ross getting rid of Sparano but not Ireland....then getting rid of Ireland but not Philbin....then Philbin but not t-dumb.....a coach doing drugs in the facility and now players that don't give a ****. What next?

Ozzy rules!!

Yeah this is sad. These guys get to play a game for work and they can't put the time in. Ridiculous!

The typical finheaven response after a loss is the team has no talent and everybody sucks. I wonder how much of this years struggles are mental and not getting whipped physically after all. I don't dive into film, hardly have time to watch the games anymore, but I'd be curious.

I know for a fact Tankersly loves football. I don't know about Tunsil, I know he's not been great this year, but he's been ok..

It sounds like Gase isn't happy with Ajayi, but it seems like he's being hit behind the line almost half the time. There aren't many holes or creases that I've seen. Am I wrong here?

The front office properly identified what needed to be done on defense and made some really outstanding moves on that side of the ball. Still a ways to go, but an awful lot got done in one offseason. Now it's time to do the same on the offensive side, starting with the awful offensive line.

I don't think he was referring to Landry at all.
I mean, if Landry doesn't have love for the game, who does!?
Landry & Wake clearly love football.

I think Gase is mainly aiming this to the RBs, RB coach, and Tannebaum, in a round about way.
Hopefully it will put some fire under everyone and they will want to prove how good they are.

I don’t think the blocking has anything to do with Ajayi. He did hop step and miss a block on the first pick 6 Thursday but his man had nothing to do with it in the end nor did he just not know the assignment he just overstepped out

That has to be Damien Williams who was horrid Thursday in all phases

Ajayi definitely left yards on tbe field trying to hit home runs though.

I find it hard to believe Jarvis Landry doesn’t love the game. He would have held out if it was all about money to him.

Laremy Tunsil may be in it for the wrong reasons I suppose. Maybe dvp too

I just think with dvp he doesn’t like to play hurt and I also think gase is a little too cautious when guys are nicked up. Easier to do when you are winning however
