Tua Contract Details Discussion Thread

We still on this?

Yoooo some of us SOBs are masochists continuing this Tua discussion.

It was in pure ol' fashion Miami Dolphins drama that it took as long as it did. Cuz we are clowns in the NFL like that.

What? Other? Logical? Choice? Was? There?

Contract details? Bro... couldn't care less.

Trying to find another QB in another 2 to 3 years or 2 to 3 weeks or 2 to 3 millennia... I don't have the will, the strength, the desire.

We locked ourselves a Tua & now defenses gonna have to HAWK TUA!

I tried to keep it simple for just the few. Or the one.

How many times do u need to say the same thing? Others disagree. Maybe stop lurking here and go back to the other thread that u seem partial to and leave the analytical questions to the adults in the room. Thanks and have a nice night.
Analytics...adults... have you seen contract terms? Do you have any opinions on such subjects?

You started this thread. Any input or thoughts?

Getting the sense that I should have hold off on my:

How does the Tua contract make you feel thread...
Its started by op as to what are contract terms. He is still looking over his notes.

One question that the OP presented was the idea that we might now sign someone else with the cap space created by this signing.... and while I suppose this is theoretically possible, I doubt it for several reasons.

1) The front office keeps saying they are happy with what we've got. I believe them.
2) I'm not sure there's anyone worthwhile left. Most of what's left is more name than current game.
3) ...and most importantly, any unspent money rolls over to next year when we'll actually need it.

I'll be both surprised and honestly, pissed off if we sign anyone this late in the process... UNLESS it's for chump change.

What about Holland or Phillips or Hill?

Yeah^ I think the implication is extend Holland/Phillips or to indeed have more flexibility for a potential mid season move IF necessary with the understanding that the money also can rollover…. Which is actually super wise considering we are expecting to be contenders this year.

-It actually seems like it is a bit more friendly to the Dolphins than I would have thought. There is actually only $93mm in fully guaranteed money, with only a $42mm signing bonus, compared to the $75mm and $73mm Love and Goff got. $54mm due in 2026 vests in 2025. I am not sure what that means, but it seems possible that if something went really bad this year for example Tua got hurt again, the Dolphins could get out.

I wonder why his signing bonus is so much lower than theirs. Was their guaranteed money also a lot higher?

Also, what does the signing bonus matter in terms of cap implication?

In general... when you extend a player, your immediate cap cost goes down. If we were to extend Holland, it would be very unlikely that we'd use more of this year's cap. Just like with the Tua extension... the current year number declines.

Teams tend to extend players early in the process in order to create cap space to sign expensive players during the first free agent period... but that is long passed now.
