Tua has learned nothing from the injuries….

No complaints from me towards Tua fighting for the 1st down.

He readied himself for contact and did what a QB is supposed to do on that play.

What I think Tua needs to work on is his slide when giving himself up, being aware the refs mark the ball where he begins and not where he actually lands.

the lowering the shoulder thing trying to run for first downs, and giving up on a pass play and throwing the ball away are likely two very different issues he needs to work on.

i didn't see any of the latter last night.
It’s kind of funny, we have posters on here that want him to run. Then we have other posters pissed when he doesn’t get the first down because he slides early so he doesn’t tack a hit. And we have others pissed that he lowers his shoulder against a db to try to get a first down. Now I didn’t like him taking on the LB in the red zone, but he’s made that juke before and it worked. It just didn’t work this time the LB made the play.

McDaniel needs to explain to him that the issue isn’t whether he did or did not get the first down on those plays. The issue is that no first down is worth losing him for a game, a month, a season. Even in critical situations, we’re better punting or coming up short than having Tua expose himself to injury. Tua needs to start thinking about games he misses with injuries as losses. No individual play is worth a default loss because he has to miss the next game.

perhaps the key word is "balance."

Kid needs to play smarter and avoid unnecessary contact via run or pass.

He ain't gonna last going head first into tacklers.

Sure, we all like his competitive nature and desire but that has to be balanced with his need to stay in the game.

Deep in the playoffs or stupid bowl maybe you sell out and put your bean at risk. But otherwise you play it safe. And smart.

i do love the scramble and slide!

It's still football. He is wired that way. You can't just turn it off like that. He will learn eventually.
I agree. Coaching and experience might help. If it doesn't then its on him.

Yep, this mindset takes time to eventually get to that point. I saw some signs of it last night. I truly believe he will get there

I think Tua knows the rule.
