Tua has no plans to retire

The Dolphins shouldn’t let him back on the field imo. This dude is playing with fire he’s probably already going to have some type of CTE. This is very sad
It's his decision.

I don’t think it’s a matter of whether Tua “should” retire or not. He’s not going to retire imo. It’s more of a Dolphins organization problem now.

How does having a QB that must completely avoid any contact to the head impact the game plan and limit execution?

Can’t play this game trying not to get hurt.

If he comes back.. how can the Dolphins rely on him remaining healthy? Every game/season would be a complete crapshoot and if he has another one these concussions where he has the hand fencing.. the organization is going to get absolutely hammered over letting him back out there.

Something thing he did last year by protecting himself and playing safe. That shouldn’t have changed, he just made a bonehead decision. Would like to see a neck brace and guardian cap added upon return.

Well he made it through last year with contact, maybe he wears the guardian helmet.

I assume those things will be considered. If Mia front office has lost confidence then they need to make a move but salary cap wise that probably won’t be this year.

After the last fencing incident, which occurred a few weeks after the "non" concussion vs Buffalo, he returned after what a month? Then he got a 2nd or 3rd against GB and missed the rest of the year and symptoms went into the offseason, no fencing on that one. He didn't know he even had a concussion. My question to any doctors out there is, does the fencing thing indicate a severe concussion? What role does it play in the prognosis for a patient?

When a pro boxer is in the ring, they never want to quit. The referee has to stop the fight for their own protection. Or their corner throws in the towel to protect the fighter from themselves.

Tua can't play in the NFL.

You can say that about any player in the NFL. Every single player is one hit away from a career ending injury. That's the truth whether it fits the media narrative or not.
A lot of times we are talking about knees and elbows etc. this is a head injury that keeps happening and we know what CTE is doing to these guys as these guys get older. I’m finding it hard to cheer on Tua coming back to the field so we can be entertained for a few hours

it will be very interesting to see things play out.

I am a big beleiver in personal freedom. If he really wants to do it, so be it. No different than a guy riding a speed bike with no helmet.

That said, if I was the organization I would have a come-to-Jesus meeting with him AND his family. Maybe have him meet with some dementia patients or Junior Seau's family (if they are willing). He really has to understand 100% what he could be signing his family up for. He has enough money to retire and be comfortable for a couple lifetimes, what is he really trying to prove at this point?

I respected Andrew Luck for walking away. Hated to see it but I respected it.

That said if Tua is dead set on playing, he will. Unless the NFL itself sits him.

Read a good article today that says Guardian caps help prevent head injuries but don't help nearly as much for concussions as they involve the neck.

You can read it for free here courtesy of me. Trigger warning...it is from the NYT:
“The problem is that people confuse head injuries with brain injuries,” Dr. Jamshid Ghajar, a neurosurgeon and the president of the Brain Trauma Foundation, told me. “Helmets definitely help with head injuries,” like a fractured skull or injuries to the scalp, he noted, but they don’t help with concussions.

Concussions arise when a person’s neck bends and twists after the head is hit. That was apparent on Thursday, when the Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion from a tackle that caused his neck to turn sharply.

“The neck is very flexible,” Dr. Ghajar said. “Its movement causes the brain injury problem, making the front part of the brain whiplash.” The front of the brain, he added, “is where we see concussions and severe brain injury.”

Race-car drivers wear helmets that actually protect them from concussions, Dr. Ghajar noted. The helmet holds the neck rigid so it cannot move in a collision. “Drivers have had collisions at over 200 miles per hour and no brain injury,” he said.

“Helmets and padding work if you have an iron neck,” Dr. Ghajar added.

It did not have to be like this. Tua could have retired following his 2nd concussion of the 2022 season, but at that point the $15 million or so Tua had earned from playing wasn't enough to satisfy him.
Since that time he's collected another $50 million , but that's probably still not enough to satisfy him and his family. My guess is that if the Dolphins offer to pay him an additional $100 million that will mean he has around $150 million in the bank and for that money he will be willing to call it a day.
