well remember, due to the struggles of Ellerbe and Wheeler last year we ended up using Jones much differently than we did in 2012 with Burnett and Dansby and Jones played like a stud.
Well Jenkins is playing better than Wheeler did last year at the WLB but Trusnik is an issue at MLB. Every time the play crosses Trusnik's face it an easy pitch and catch. The first TD the Raiders scored on us was the TE crossing right in front of Trusnik and Trusnik isn't explosive enough, has no closing speed and is just bad in coverage in general. So I'm not sure Jones will be used much different unless Misi plays and is better than Trusnik.
I will say that Jimmy Wilson is invisible out there for most of the game. I rarely notice him. Tripp played 4 snaps on defense and I saw him around the ball on 3 of those plays. I seriously forget Wilson is on the field.
Wilson isn't noticeable until a play gets downfield and he tries to tackle somebody. He just kind of hits them and bounces off.
I think Jenkins being better and Misi being able to do more will give Jones some freedom. But even then, his tackling has never really been an issue.
As others have said I believe the linebacker play significantly impacted Jones last year. He is best in a free role with no set responsibilties but when Dansby and Burnett left (I was one of the few who rated them around here) he lost the ability to play that way because well Ellerbe and Wheeler ****** suck
I think everybody rated them UK, the issue was getting rid of both (though Burnett was just as bad as Wheeler last year FWIW). I think people were just tired of Dansby because he came in overweight two years in a row and was constantly running his mouth.
But it did hurt him because it took Jones's ability to react away. I mention it whenever people talk about Clemons. When Clemons was asked to play as a centerfield safety during Jones's breakout season he SUCKED. We gave up a lot of big plays because he couldn't get over. When we had to switch to two deep last year due to LB play he was better.

Thank the gods Misi will be back and Tripp will likely be his backup. And in obvious passing downs I'm hoping we have Tripp, Jenkins and McCain out there together.
If we had Jones and Misi together for the KC game some of those scores would not have happened, or not looked so easy at least.
oh please, Dansby got abuse every single week. I thought he was one of our best players.
