Despite the stressful loss (dropped passes/missed field goal) we played really well in some important areas. We had a very strong defensive effort and won the turn-over battle. This is a winning formula on most Sundays. Only question is can we sustain this type of effort each week? Finally, Gase is head and shoulders above any other coach not named Shula. We may not be going anywhere this year, but with him as the Coach we will start replacing some of the weaker pieces in time (Cameron, however, I think we have to give him some more time)

we also won the penalty battle too.
These are all positive signs to walk away with IMO.

Shula's teams were often the least penalized. Wake's penalty in this game was brutal. We had them ready to punt but instead this sustained their winning drive. Yes, winning the penalty battle is another good stat. Winning the turnover battle, taking chances (4th and short), fewer penalties and stout defense is a great formula. Now we need to control the clock which I believe we will not start running the ball until game 5/6 when the lines gels further and all Tackles learn to push the pile.

Add: play better in all aspects of special teams minus our punter.

Time of possession was terrible. They had the ball 9 minutes longer than we did. You could tell the offense was new. Should get better each week but the run game has to improve. Hard to fathom that we have a 7th year TE who doesn't know how to set up in an empty zone. He ran right by it on the dropped ball. RT put the ball in the right spot and he ran past the open area and almost got behind the defender. Gotta get that fixed NOW to help with that terrible 3rd down conversion rate. We really need Parker on the field to make the offense click.

There are things to build on....

Now we need to learn to win, again, a coach is trying to undo years of play it safe football and hope we don't lose mentality to "let's go win this thing". It won't happen overnight, but there are signs that it is indeed happening.

I agree that the defense was good but this is a pattern that they always choke late in the 4th quarter. The only time the defense did something wss when Michael Thomas had that late interception against Brady.
If we can perform at a high level for 4 quarters and 10 minutes, why can't we do it for the last 5 minutes?

Agree with most but ST's were a problem on a couple of good returns neglated by penalties. Other than that yes, we did some good things

Ozzy rules!!

I won't say it's not going to happen but last week looked like the classic defensive choke when they gave up TWO 4th down conversions on the final drive. 22 yards given up on 4th and 4. At least the previous drive that was extended by penalty to Wake ended in a turnover.

Yes they were on the field way too much but a mistake was made IMO, when they didn't have Cam Wake on the field for the final stand. Especially when he had such a low snap count. Jason Jones was the lowest graded edge rusher in the NFL last week.

Game ended with incomplete, sack, sack.

Offense has to get better to help them out but this looked like the same defense I have seen for a decade or two. Play great all game and then choke on the final drive.

We also won the shoot ourselves in the foot battle. I completely disagreed with going for it on fourth and inches should've kicked a field goal. Also that roughing the passer penalty on wake hurt us. We would've had the ball back and the whole game could've been completely different.

The only time the defense did something was when Michael Thomas had that late interception against Brady.

Simply not true.

Last year vs the Redskins the defense stopped Redskins 3 times at the end of the game to preserve victory.
Last year vs the Eagles the defense stopped the Eagles 3 times at end of game to preserve the victory.
Last year vs the Ravens the defense stopped the Ravens 3 times at the end of game to preserve victory.
Last year vs the Patriots the defense stopped the Patriots 2 times at end of game to preserve the victory.

Do you actually watch the games?

Most of our victories last year were because the defense held at the end of game. This time was not to be. It can be very hard to stop any team at the end of a game. They have 4 downs to pick up 10 yards and rules that favor the offense. Better to be ahead by more than a score and not have to rely on stopping the other team.
