Long time reader but 1st post. Seems to me the biggest thing missing on this year's defense is turnovers. Two things come to mind. Lack of pressure on the qb and alot more open receivers due to the problems in the secondary. Thoughts? Also on a side note I've seen McMike's lack of touchs due to doing more blocking discussed. Do you guys think he could become a hot route receiver or blocking then releasing for quick passes like RBs do on a screen pass?

- Apple or Cherry?

Lack of pressure to force bad throws and an inferior secondary.

Welcome aboard !!

:welcome: to :fh: We only have 3 Interceptions this season and two of those are thanks to Lance Schulters. We are doing pretty good in sacks with 15 but I know that we are capable of performing even better. It also seems like we haven't been getting many fumble recoveries and I can remember so many opportunities where we forced fumbles and it's been game changing missed opportunities that has hurt us so much, the Buffalo games comes to mind.

I should have been more specific. Do you guys think its more a lack of pressure from the front 7 or a lack of good coverage thats led to a decline in turnovers. I remember during offseason/draft some people wondered why so many new dline guys were brought in especially ends. do you guys think maybe Saban knew already that the secondary(his specialty) was the weak link on the defense so he did all he could to improve the pressure to cover for it? He couldn't find any quality cbs worth signing so he tried to improve the pass rush to cover for it.

In short : your right. We lost our starting DT's , Wally , Surtain , Seau has gotten nicked up and is older , Morlon left , Marion left ( and older ), some young guys in the secondary get hurt ( Poole for starters )..After Taylor , Thomas & Madison , what's consistent?

Very possible. It would make plenty of sense. I remember last year when Law went down for the pats and they had to keep using backups and even troy brown for thier secondary but yet that side of the field was just as strong as ever. One sports caster said because of the pressure they get from thier d-line it allows the secondary not to be as good. I dont know how true that was for the pats but I think its a true estimate to make with football. O-line and D-line are the two most important pieces on a football team. You can have the best qb and rb and not get any consistant production cause there is no protection for the qb and no hole for the rb. The lines do the dirty work. Just look at the Chiefs. Any Rb that touches the rock is an mvp canidate. Or even look at the broncos. Our d-line yet good, is very old and slow. Minus JT, the line is good but slow. And without speed there is no one getting to the qb in time. Untill we have a solid o-line, our qb woes will stay.
