Any veteran WR we signed pre-draft to a multi-million dollar contract (Greg Jennings or Michael Crabtree) was going to expect to be a full-time starter.

But then the unexpected happened in the draft, and WR DeVante Parker fell to us at #14.

Thus, the veteran WR we signed pre-draft was now going to have significantly less snaps than a full-time starter.

In this situation, character matters a lot.

And Greg Jennings is much more likely to be a team player who actually accepts a rotational role, mentors the young WRs, rather than screaming & pouting on the sidelines, and boycotting the team.

Actually, it's good that we signed Jennings because he's a better football player.

Absolutely. This is the exact reason I didn't want Crabtree. He's a diva and was going to poison the well. We now have a solid WR corp full of high level character guys with a great mentor and team player. Couldn't have worked out better.

I think that was the plan all along. To have Jennings mentor. We just got lucky that Parker is the guy he's mentoring.

Also seems like the decision to extricate us from the big dollars and big egos tied up in Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline (and Brandon Gibson) as the WR group was also a pretty good decision.

good thing we signed jennings fullstop

Credit to the FO for getting it exactly right. Dumping overpaid players with me first attitudes was important for making our team chemistry better. I think we have an improved receiving core as far as speed, overall talent and attitude. We're better, younger and cheaper. The LBers that we dumped also was a great move.

Plus, Greg Jennings does NOT count against the compensatory pick formula because he was released by the Vikes.

Mike Wallace is now but a footnote in Miami Dolphin history.

i wouldnt say turns out..... it was from the start it was extremely best that we didnt sign Crabtree.... even if we didnt get Jennings!!!

We definitely made the right choice with him over Craptree but Jennings isn't a lock to make the roster imo. Generally, you have 4 true/pure WR's on a 53, the 5th or 6th spot is generally given to a player who also contributes on special teams and is young and cheap (like a Tony Lippet). If Lippet (or a player like him) really shows out in camp and earns that 5 spot, it could come down to a competition between Mathews and Jennings to even make the roster. I also don't see us carrying 6, we carried 4 for much of last year but you never know.

I'm not really sure ho much either have left to offer a team. I guess we will see how much of a difference it actually makes on our season. I do know Crabtree is super slow.
