there were 2 NBA trades that went through today.

First in a 3 way deal the Washington Wizards traded Antonio Daniels to the New Orleans Hornets and got Mike James in return and also got Jarvaris Crittenton from Memphis (who got a fist round pick). Hornets got the back up PG they needed, the Wizards got a PG for the future, and the Grizz got rid of a PG that was not part of their plans.

In a deal that just broke, the Phoenix Suns traded Raja Bell, Boris Diaw, and Sean Singletary to Charlotte for Jason Richardson and Jared Dudley. Diaw never lived up to the contract he got in Phoenix and Raja Bell has been unhappy this year in Phoenix. In return the Suns get the slashing wing that they really haven't had since Joe Johnson was on the team, and a hustle guy to come off the bench.

Nice deal by the Hornets...Now they have a back up point.

Hmm wonder what the Mavs think of the Suns getting Richardson. The Suns have everything you would want in a starting 5,but leave alot to be desired with that bench.

They still have a capable bench. Barnes and Barbosa in the backcourt and Lopez up front. Of course three of their starters are ancient and if one goes down it'll all collapse.

I suspect this isn't the last trade we'll see from Brown. Richardson and Wallace never could coexist so one of them had to go, but I don't see how Diaw fits in. I can't believe Brown would be content with a frontcourt of Okafor and Diaw.....it'd be worse than what Miami's got.

i dont understand the system in phoenix. they sent away their biggest defense asset. now they're left asking 5 scorers to defend in the half-court.

i kinda like the deal for charlotte. diaw-okafur is too small, but bell should play well along side augustine, felton, and wallace.

Capable..."Capable" isn't good enough, especially come playoff time. And what happened to the "defense" Porter is supposed to be implementing. You wont get much of that from Richardson.

The bench is more important for the regular season grind than in the playoffs. Most teams will cut down their rotation to 8 guys or less come playoff time.

I don't know what Kerr is thinking, except that on paper he made a great trade. The team looks dysfunctional right now with Nash lacking confidence, Shaq playing the part time superstar, and Stoudamire pouting. But if they can ever figure it all out, it'll be fun to watch 'em play.

The funny part here is that Bell is reported as being unhappy with Porter's new system. No run and gun anymore, now you have to actually play defense.

Well wasn't Bell one of their best defenders? He's unhappy and now his *** is in Charlotte where they always blow. Like you get rid of Bell when you've been emphasizing defense the whole time.

 Fun to watch and little else.Whose gonna guard Manu?Especially should the Spurs meet the Suns in the playoffs again...

IMO the trade was bad for the Suns. The Suns make a trade for a one-dimensional player and ballhog in Richardson, not to mention that perimeter D was already not that great. The Suns most likely will not contend for anything again this year.

Also, what are the Suns going to do in the front court when Shaq sits out back-to back games?

As I said, you don't trade for a one-dimension player and ball hog like Richardson when you are trying to stress defense.

To me,it seems like the Suns are always one twisted ankle away from just totally collapsing. And now they are resting Shaq more than ever it seems.I know he'll play more should they make the playoffs, but I just dont think theyre froncourt is that great outside of Amare.

Shaq can still go out there and drop 35 on you.....that's bad for an immobile old man. Him and Stoudamire have to be considered on of the top frontcourt duos in the league.

Amare seems to be the problem on defense. At this point in his career, Shaq isn't going to give you much more than a solid block out on the defensive end. But Amare has the ability to do so much more on that end of the court and for whatever reason has never developed that part of his game. I don't think you'll see any discernable difference in pts given up with Richardson.

Shaq is not going to drop 35 pts every night any more..He'll have his moments until he finally loses a leg at half court one night. They already sit him on B2B's.This isnt 96' and Amare still doesn't want to play defense. Now if the reverse were true,THEN you may have something.

And Richardson isn't even the defensive player either of the two guys traded were. There has to be a difference IMO.We will see.
