The Jets signed Pennington to a seven-year, $67 million deal before the start of last season. He is scheduled to count $15 million against the cap in 2006, but that is almost certain to be restructured.

The Jets have other financial issues to address in the offseason. The biggest is defensive end John Abraham, who is expected to be franchised again.

Owner Woody Johnson is fearful of spending too much money on a long-term deal for Abraham, so the standout player will get a one-year deal worth over $8 million. Abraham has said if the team does franchise him again, he will have the same plan as last year and hold out until the last possible moment.

Abraham left the team after Sunday's game to take care of personal matters and wasn't available for comment. Cornerback Ty Law also probably played his final down with the Jets because he's due $11 million to trigger the remainder of his contract with the Jets. Law overcame a serious left foot injury to make his fifth Pro Bowl.

I think...we should go after Ty Law...he will be available for long term....and had 10 ints this year....man he would just be great if Madison left. Shut down corner no doubt....and Daniels can just learn more from another Pro-Bowler...

he will cost to much money and with Saban already saying he wants our d to get younger (not to mention our own cap space available), why would we go after a old guy of like 31 or 32 that would be only a 1 or 2 year solution we in reality we are like 3 or 4 years from the super bowl? to me that seems like a solution that wanny and the former gm would have made and guess what they are both gone.

Let's see what he asks $$ wise. Being a pro bowler, it won't be cheap. However, he's been on a Championship team and now a 4 win team. He might look towards Miami as an up and coming and probably playoff team next year and take less. I doubt it though and won't hold my breath on him. He probably looked at the Jets the same way this season.

Wasnt money why we didnt sign Law last year?

Yes but last year we didnt have the cap room to do so.

That said go get me T.O., LeCharles Bentley (N.O. Center) and Julian Peterson, draft a corner in rd 1 (ashton Youboty please), Andrew Whitworth in rd 2, Olsen or Croyle in rd 3, and either Pat Watkins (FSU safety) or the Bama SS in rd 4 (forget bama safety's name) and ill be even happier with our offseason then getting Ty Law.

I think Nick's gonna go defence on draft day..he wants to get younger on deffence.

Ozzy rules!!

I doubt he plays in the AFC East again....

I do think Law will end up down there. 10 INts is outstanding BUT he had an enormous amount of penalties this year(see what happens when you take off the Pats jersey?) and he did re-injure the foot late in the year so those will be 2 causes for concern for whoever signs him but at least for another year or 2 he should still be very good and I wish we'd be able to keep him but that most likely will not happen.

i'm sorry... are you also a member of the "Pats get all the calls" cult?... you're a lot of things, nyjunc, but a conspiracy theorist?... i had no idea...

yes, because the NFL wants the boring patriots to keep winning every year so ratings drop because they love teams that have no big stars and won't sell jerseys and cereal boxes and etc

yeah they only have the best QB in the game at the most glamerous position but they have no stars.

I don't believe the officials have given NE anything however Is aw Law mug recievers time and time again in NE w/ never being called while here he was called for every time he breathed on a WR.

except no one thinks he's the best QB. no good runningback, no good receiver, underrated QB, boring coach, boring team, no reason WHATSOEVER for the NFL to want them to win

well, i believe there were rules changes implemented after his departure from NE.... could be just a coincidence, perhaps
