Thigpen leads all QBs in rushing this year and he's only played a little over half a season! After struggling mightily in his early appearances this year, Herm Edwards decided to implement the spread offense and since then, Tyler Thigpen has looked like an entirely different, more comfortable quarterback. He has a strong arm, can throw on the run, and has good instincts on when to take off and run for a first down. In High School, he was the number one rated Running back in the state of South Carolina.
Many of us may not know much about this guy, 'cause, well who watches Chiefs games, honestly...But the more I'm watching highlights on this guy and reading about him, he should be the new hyped-up quarterback ESPN loves to, well over-hype, not that Matt Cassel guy.
After the Chiefs lost to Tennessee (A game in which the Titans ran for over 300 yards rushing) and Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard were both lost to injuries (both injuries occurring by Haynesworth sacks), Herm decided since his only QB option was Thigpen, he would adapt to Thigpen's spread offensive mindset that he was accustomed to in his college days.
Herm's game plan worked. A week after getting nothing done on offense, Thigpen throws for 70% with 2 TDs, and the Chiefs almost upset the Jets....
From the time of that installment of the spread offense until now, Tyler Thigpen has thrown 13 TDs to only 5 INTs, rushing 45 times for 264 yards.
What the Wildcat was to the Dolphins, that is what the spread offense is to the Chiefs, except that the spread offense can be used over the course of an entire game, rather than a few plays. This game, more specifically, this player, Tyler Thigpen, scares me. Luckily for us, their defense is horrific...Before the SD game this week, they only recorded 6 sacks all season. They had 3 against the Chargers last week.
PS- No. This isn't Tyler Thigpen or his mother lol. Just a Dolphin fan informing you guys that when Thigpen scrambles out of the pocket for 10,12 yarders, don't feel that our defense is underperforming. We just need to blitz the hell out of this guy and not allow him to move around in the pocket.
