The final attendance figures for UFC 68 have come in from the Ohio Athletic Commission, and the event has officially broken the all-time total attendance record for a mixed martial arts event in North America.

The total number of fans in attendance at UFC 68 in Columbus, Ohio on March 3rd was 19,079.

Compared to WWE's biggest pro wrestling event in the United States over the past twelve months (WrestleMania 22 in Chicago, Illinois on April 2, 2006), UFC 68 out-drew WrestleMania in total attendance (19,079 to 17,155) and in live gate revenue ($2,741,820 to $2,500,000).

Looks like the US tour will continue, and I expect the records to fall like dominoes....

That doesnt even include PPV, which consistently beat out anything WWE puts out....The average UFC PPV gets better numbers than Wrestlemania does...

WrestleMania this year (in about 3 weeks) will have 70,000+ people at FORD FIELD.

So, that 19,000 won't last long!! lol lol lol

That just isn't true! That is the UFC spin but it isn't true. And I'm a huge UFC fan as you can see from my posts in this thread all of the time, but fact is fact.

SOME UFC ppv's might outdraw WrestleMania. But the "average" one doesn't. You might get 1 or 2 UFC PPV's a year that will outdraw WrestleMania.

WrestleMania is a MONSTER when it comes to PPV buy rate. It's still the standard to which everything is judged!!

the normal venue they do in Vegas, doesn't look very big anyways.

Here are some numbers that are out there-

Wrestlemania 2006 - 560,000 buys.

UFC in 2006

57- 410,000
58- 300,000
59- 435,000
60- 625,000
61- 775,000
62- 500,000
63- 400,000
64- 300,000
65- 500,000
66- 1,050,000

So I guess you are right, they arent beating WM consistently, but they were 3 times last year and twice they were almost even...If you go by the last 7 of 2006 they only did significantly worse twice, and once they did DOUBLE...

Total ppv revenue-
WWE- $131,793,000
UFC- $222,766,000

The average number of PPV buys per event was 208,000 for WWE, which is less than half of the UFCs average of 522,500.

i seem to recall the Andre the Giant vs Hulk Hogan Wrestlemania at the old Silverdome in Michigan had over 90,000 in attendance back in the day.

either way i am glad to see the UFC growing in popularity.

Well 90,000 is what the WWF/E wants you to believe but in reality I believe the paid attendance was 78,000. Still that's a huge huge draw.

as for the ppv buyrates and whatnot, i realize that both UFC and WWE share fanbase to a degree, thus the comparison. but i am curious to see what the emergence of UFC has done compared to PPV boxing?

since i've gotten into MMA, i could not care less to watch a boxing match because as good as those guys are at what they do, i know they would get destroyed by an average MMA fighter of the same weight.

and a boxing match compared to a UFC fight is boring in comparison IMHO.
