There's an announcement under the streaming videos on the new miamidolphins.com that they're planning to switch back to Realplayer / Real Video on August 7th. If you hate Realplayer as much as I do, and would prefer seeing the more user friendly Windows Media Player streaming videos, please send a short email to these two addresses below expressing that!

Only problem i really have with RealPlayer is that our work network does not let us stream Real Media, but will let us stream Windows Media. :fire:

IMO the site was experiencing too many problems with the Windows media player and the plugins. It worked great for those with optimal Internet connections and PC settings but many finfans didnt meet those requirements or have the knowledge to make the necessary adjustments.

So they went back to the tried and tested system that worked for them before and which is still being used by the NFL .

I hate Real Player with a passion because it tries to basically take over all video on your computer. Unless go through many painful steps, it will associate itself with all types of media (because that's what you obviously would prefer); it installs numerous background services to make it "run faster". I hate it, I hate it, I hate it ...

The site is also having problems with too many fancy 3rd party plugins as a requirement to view anything. Just bad design IMO - I can surf around to any NFL Team website and everything is fine. No blocking screens, or failure to load stuff like this one. You don't need Macromedia junk to view a video clip.

A key fundamental in user friendly web design is "degrade gracefully" for those with various browsers and computer systems. The new Dolphins site has drawn so MANY complaints (not just me!) by now I've lost count... :tantrum:

They all try to be the default player when you try to install them except for the generic ones like the one Muck and UF referred to and the Videolan player which will play almost anything except Quicktime.

Just say no.

The problem with the Real aternative is that it doesnt work for Mac systems or other software other than Windows as far as I know.

I was celebrating when they went to Windows Media, but I guess when it comes to the big picture, you can't make everyone happy. Enjoy WMP while it lasts on the site...I got my Chambers/Wes Welker fix today. Real Player locks up my computer far too much, but hopefully I'll get that problem fixed. These videos are too good.

For some reason my computer is having trouble with the Dolphins website. It takes long to load the videos. Only on Dolphins site. :fire:
