This is just common sense. It doesn't matter what sport you play you DO NOT LET A PLAYER FROM YOUR TEAM GO TO ANOTHER TEAM IN YOUR DIVISION. Do you realize how bad it makes you look when a player like WELKER goes to New England and because of better coaching or a better o-line, does well, or even worse, helps them beat you in a game.

If you can get a 2nd rounder for welker from the Giants, great go ahead, but not from a team that you will play 2 ties next year. Not when he has the chance to make your decision making look stupid.

I personally hate to lose welker. I was a huge fan of him. He is more dependable then a chambers type player (IMO) who can seem to put a complete game or complete season together. We need the player thats going to go over the middle, catch everything thrown, and take the hit. Wes was our man for that.

I will say we need to build young. Getting a 2nd rounder for him is a big deal. But giving him to a team that can hurt you is bad business in sports. Every time we've had a GM in charge of personal they seem to make stupid mistakes. This is the the #1 commandment in all sports and we are breaking it.

Do you realize that we have no say in where he accepts an offer to? Do you also realize that matching their offer would be the stupidest thing possible?

Don't worry every release so far has been a good one (except Mcintosh IMO) The defense is still intact, we are just retooling the offense. We will lean heavily on the run game and thats a good thing. There has been way to much panic from fans so far for moves that have been very good.

Um, what if we get a better player in return? Does getting better take a backseat to division rivalries?

You ever heard of sometimes you just can't do anything about it? If the pats are willing to pay that, and the poison pill rumors are true, we're left with a 2nd round draft pick that hey, doesn't sound too bad and sounds pretty damn good if you ask me.

You can't stop him from signing that tender. And it would be dumb to match it if you can get a 2nd round pick for a guy you picked off the scrap heap.

I love Wes, but if he signs, goodbye!

I'll take a 2nd round pick for Welker. That is way too rich for my liking. I'd prefer to spend our $$ elsewhere than on our 3rd receiver.

I truly enjoyed watching Wes Welker and now my homies in Boston get to watch his magic... He was an impact player.

I'm glad you started out talking about common sense, because that is your answer. Welker is not getting traded he is a 2nd round tendered Restristced Free Agent, so we have no control over who makes him an offer. The only control we have is to decide whether we want to match the offer sheet and retain him.

So while I'm sure Cam and Mueller would prefer to see Wes in a different division or conference, they have no say in the matter unless they decide to match NE's proposal. And personally I do like Wes, but I don't think we're in a position to overpay to match NE's offer.

And you don't overpay to keep him either. If he were truly not expendable he would have received a higher tender. I hate to see him go too but deal with it, move on and stop worrying about embarrassment. If it wasn't Wes Welker it could have just as easily been Kevin Curtis.

rely heavily on the run game? umm where were you last year when passes to welker were the only things keeping our offense alive. Unless ricky comes back and plays like he did 2 or 4 years ago I wouldn't bet on much of a running game. Our #1 running back was a 2nd stringer in college and probably wouldn't start in many places in the NFL. He has the ability to catch out of the back field but then tries to do all sorts of juking **** that he is too big for and not fast enough for. Until the day comes when he learns to run straight and run over people i dont expect anything from him.

Then running also requires an offensive line which we lack. this was bad business , not just bad, stupid

I see what kind of poster you are now. Forgive me if I don't answer any of your posts in the future.

5 simple FACTS that aren't even worthy of dispute:

1. Wes Welker is at best a #3 WR
2. Wes Welker is a TERRIBLE kick returner; decent punt returner
3. Wes Welker is not worth $38 million
4. Wes Welker is not worth a 2nd-round draft choice
5. It's not Miami's choice; he's a restricted free agent

New England signing Welker to an offer sheet is NOT IN MIAMI's CONTROL.

So, do you match the offer sheet for WAY MORE than he's worth plus leave a 2nd rounder behind........just to keep him away from your division rival? Hell no. Be smart here; we're being built for the future, so think beyond the two times we'll play NE in 2007.

Our second string college runningback averages 4.3 yards a carry for his career and 4.2 last year which was more than:

Shaun Alexander
Jamal Lewis
Reggie Bush
Kevin Jones
Thomas Jones
Carnell Williams
Rudi Johnson
Edgerrin James (Not just last year either, more than James has averaged most of his career)
Warrick Dunn
Corey Dillon
Clinton Portis

Thats not even a full list, thats just guys I thought to look up off the top of my head.

Only 0.1 yards per carry behind Larry Johnson also. Yeah he really and truely sucks.

Also we have no say in where Welker can or can't sign, so what exactly do you suppose we do?
