UMs Rutledge to get a tryout at minicamp

Rutledge seems to be an enigma. He only gave up two sacks as a sophomore and won the Hurricanes' Most Improved Lineman Award that same year. Since that time he has been inconsistent at best. He wasn't even a starter as a senior and has played all positions on the offensive line except center.

I'd be a little wary of getting any UM O-linemen from this year's team.

The last decent guy they really produced was Eric Winston, and he's really picked his game up in the pros.

Chris Rutledge is nothing be excited about; believe me. Kid was an average lineman coming out of Dr. Krop High. Never really matured much from a lineman standpoint but he can play both sides of the ball. But like I said, he's average. He'd get manhandled by the pros. Last I heard he was only pushing out 13 reps at 225. But he does have a nice wingspan. Questionable footing. I don't know where he is exactly weight wise. I know he came out of high school around 275lbs or so. He's probably of the 315lbs variety. 'Cane fans will tell you that there was A LOT left to be desired from Rutledge.

He started as a right tackle his senior year.

Plays too high and not much of an athlete.

Let's put it this way, even the most fervent Canes message boards gave up on him more than two years ago.

He's better than Reggie Youngblood, if that means anything.
