Our offense is ranked 23rd in the league for scoring points with an average of 20.7 points. What do you think is the biggest reason we can't capitalize with touchdowns.

capitalization is definatley not the issue. We have one of the best red zone offenses in the league. The problem somtimes is getting to the edzone.

Our offense is a bit fragile in the 3rd and long department. Over the last few weeks we've definatley made strides, but its still an area that needs consistant productoin until it can shed its reputation of not being able to convert on 3rd & 8+ situations. .

Special Teams: People underestimate the importance of field position.
I'll leave it at that.

Offensive Penalties - these keep you out of the red zone for sure.

So yeah, its not a matter of scoring when in range, its a matter of getting in range all together.

I agree about Special Teams, but it has stepped up the last two weeks (esp against two legit jills returners)

But what has been our saving grace this season is the lack of GIVEAWAYS. We flat out don't turn the ball over, which helps us in field position big time.

Another big thing is Penalties... we're actually 10th in the league with only 65 total. Again mistake free has been a huge factor in winning, especially the close games.

We are the 9th worst team on converting 3rd downs (35.6% of them) and it only gets worse on 3rd and longs.

But we are good and getting big chunks out of the defense on 1st downs which makes it a lot easier for 2nd and 3rd. Not to mention that we go on LONG sustaining drives that eat clock, and move the chains. Again being 10th in the NFL in amount of first downs.

GO PHINS!!!

Isn't that what I said? The only thing is it is way more than sometimes. But I am still very satisfied with this year already! It can only get better!

The reason we don't score a lot despite gaining alot of yards is because we have the worst field position in the league. Our return game is awful so we don't have very good starting positions.

Here's something that you have to take into account when discussing this topic:

Miami is one of the league leaders in terms of total offensive yardage and is also one of the league leaders in converting touchdowns when in the red zone.

However, because of Miami's methodical, ball-control style of offense we often string together long drives that chew up a lot of clock and shorten games. That's a good thing in terms of helping win football games, but it will necessarily result in less offensive possessions. And less offensive possessions means less points overall.

On the flipside, Miami's bend but don't break defense (which is occasionally a bend and break like against the Patriots recently) also shortens football games and lends itself to less offensive possessions for the Dolphins offense.

Because of this, our points-per-game stat can be a bit misleading.

we dont have wr's who can score.

they dont get big YAC's and that is how a lot of
wr's score td's.

w need a big, fast, dominant wr like a T.O. or a randy moss
johnson in houston, or the former plaxico.

we now have servicable guys, but no PLAYMAKERS!

I think he meant getting to it like the red zone wise, because we have trouble on 3rd downs and what not its hard somtimes just moving down the field to even get close to the endzone

The last two weeks Ricky has had a score called back for holding. That hurts.

thats what I was going to say, I like our wr corp, but we would be so damn awesome if we had a BIG wr, and BIG being the key word, we have enough small fast type guys for the slot but would be nice to have a BIG go to guy
