You are not going to believe this.....Marty Schottenheimer has let it be know that he wants to explore other options at seasons end. He and the Spanos dont even talk anymore...thats how bad the relationship is right now between him and the owners. You wouldnt think that in a hundred years with the way their season is going. This is all coming from a former NFL coach that I am friends with. It is quietly working its way across the league.
What do you think about Marty coming to the Dolphins??? Maybe after winning the Super Bowl.

If i remember correctly he was one of Don Shula's choices to replace him. They're very good friends. I've always liked Marty, but i'm not sure how well he would do here.

If he wins the SB, he isnt leaving San Diego. He is washed up anyway.

I've always wanted Marty after Shula left. He's one of my favorite head coaches, and he's one of the most determined too. He would certainly light a fire in Miami, and maybe even bring some of his staff along with him. That's an extremely well coached football team, and if he became an available option, I'd certainly entertain the idea....

PHINZ RULE!!!!!

I think Marty is a good coach, but he has always struck me as a guy who doesn't get it done in the playoffs, we'll see this year.

You then have to consider how much of San Diego's success is a direct result of AJ Smith's awesome job as a GM.

Its not unbelievable at all. Schottenheimer and AJ Smiths quarrels have been well publicized. Smith drafted Rivers and was the one who decided to let Brees go, causing a lot of conflict.

If Marty wins one in SD it'll have more to do with the Chargers drafts over the past few years than his coaching. I had hoped that the internal strife would mean AJ Smith would be available, but unfortunately it looks like the Chargers are smart enough to let Schotty go instead. This means Cam Cameron may be perfectly positioned to land easily the best open HC job of the year. No way he'll agree to be the head coach of the Dolphins if he can stay where he is and take the helm of a team that has the star GM and a ton of young talent.

Marty is a good coach who players respect. He practice what he preaches. Unlike Saban who like to hear himself talk.

It would not be fair to him to give out his name. Trust me you will be hearing more about this. Right now, this is what is going around the west coast coaching talk. It will be news and Marty wouldnt want to come out during the playoffs but at the same time he wants it to be known so that these open jobs dont get filled too soon.

That's very true. Personally, I think we should look at all of our available options, and make our decision after everyone has been interviewed. Miami appears to be considered one of the best available opening's this off-season, so I have a feeling there will be quite a few coaches out there who will want a chance to become the next head coach. I'm hoping we'll get a chance to hire the pick of the litter in that aspect. We'll see....

It's Marty and A J Smith who Don't get along. I think he is fine with the Spanos family. A J would let him walk in a heart beat.

We'll be the 2nd best job if Marty leaves the Chargers.
