The 2010 football season for the Miami Dolphins can be summed up in a few simple words: inconsistent, unlucky and brutal. The primary struggle for the squad this year was talent on defense. After hearing about the possibility of an uncapped season in 2011, I got to thinking. This scenario allows us to rid ourselves of players who are not playing up to the standards of their paychecks; without us taking any salary cap hit. The uncapped year will also allow us to go after some big name free agents, as long as we are willing to shell out some serious cash.
I can see players such as: Porter, Ginn, and Wilson being cut due to their huge salaries and little production. In effect, we should be able to completely overhaul our team in a relatively short period of time. With a decent draft and some smart plays in free agency, the 2011 Miami Dolphins could be real contenders.

The uncapped year will definitely help us to get rid of some expensive baggage + help us keep Ronnie Brown. But, the amount of big name free agents available without compensation will be much less with no new CBA. Lets hope there are some good players with huge back loaded contracts that will be released soley for their contract numbers.

part of the reason there won't be a new CBA is because some team owners want to reduce what they spend. with no agreement, there is no cap or minimum amount to spend. you will see some teams dumping expensive players for no other reason than to cut costs. imo, we will see some players unexpectedly available.

I just don't like the idea of cutting players right off the bat without getting anything in return. Stock piling draft picks even if they are a bunch of 5-7 rounders would be a huge help in possibly moving up in the early rounds and/or finding some gems that could end up working out to being pretty good.

Then again if there is no way to even trade them for a cheese sammich, cut'em if its going to make a good impact on team salary. When a new CBA comes out though I would be stunned if the salary cap doesn't go way up or away completly.

i only think wilson, porter, carey will be cut or traded and we have replacements for all those in wake/anderson, clemons, for RT it depends on the coach

Carey wont be released, he was playing injured. Akin Ayodele should be let go, Im also interested to see if Ginn is released or traded. At QB Im expecting Pennington gone even though I would love to see him as our Backup. Also we have four runningbacks and Im interested in seeing if Hilliard is traded.

Nobody is safe on defense except Starks, Bell, maybe Culver & the guys we have drafted.

+ Langford, Ferguson, Merling, Wake, Taylor and probably McDaniels, Anderson & Jason Allen. unfortunately, Crowder is probably safe too.

I don't think an uncapped year helps us at all

This owner has been trying to relieve himself of financial responsibilty by getting these stupid celebrity owners (making us look stupid). I think he will be one of these owners that is going to dump salaries and cut his costs and spend as little as he can on salaries. I don't live in Florida but i've heard on here many times about how the stadium doesn't sell out. Less revenue equals cutting costs, I don't think the future looks good if there isn't a new CBA!

Nobody really knows yet how an uncapped year will pan out. The assumption is that teams will be free to dump whoever they like and when they like without any penalty and if that happens then yes there will be an awful lot of high profile free agents suddenly on the market who might have to take huge pay cuts to find another job. Trouble is you might have to wait till the final cuts and the first week of the season to sign these players - depends if they're due any offseason bonuses. For example the Dolphins will cut Porter before they have to pay him his 1.2m roster bonus (whenever that's due) but a lot of other players who are supposedly on the way out will be kept until it becomes definite in training camp that they have no future here

But I've also seen other opinions from GMs etc who say that teams may be more reluctant to dump their baggage than people think. For example one theory is that if the cap comes back in 2011 or 2012 then cap-hits from this year could be carried forward to then. Hopefully it will all become clearer in the next few weeks

What does the stadium looking empty have to do with Ross? There's only so much that guy can do and the fans not coming to the games have nothing to do with the moves he's made.

Do you even have an idea as to why the minority owners were chosen?

Every team can benefit.

ya but this will work to all the teams advantage ,not just miami

Carey was ranked the third best RT in the NFL last year. He never gets injured and he is the picture of consistency.

Not only that he can play either LT or RT and, though it hasn't been tried, would probably be a pro-bowl OG as well.

If Carey goes anywhere it will be in a trade for a at least a 1st and a 3rd.
