Charlie was a German shepherd.
Charlie was the Hilliard family dog.
It was Charlie who taught young Lex Hilliard to get quicker - or else - as a boy growing up in remote Kalispell, Mont.
"Constantly, I was trying to juke the German shepherd," says Lex, the Dolphins' second-year running back and special-teams ace. "You're riding a bike, he'd try to bite the tires. I'm out in the yard playing football, he'd try to bite my ankles."
