As another season winds down, that undefeated preseason seems
so long ago.
After a 11-5,East champion 2008 season then to come out and win all
the preseason games....I kinda got caught up in the pink cloud effect for our team this year.
There are some good things that have come out of this season, but
I must admit,I'm REALLY dissappointed in the way this year went.
As a fan since 1970,I'm really looking forward to winning a playoff game.
It's going to be a bitter,LONG offseason.

I had hopes for this season too..But when your starting Qb gets hurt and your D is also riddlled with injuries its gonna happen..My confidence dropped when Pennington got hurt..He was not physically gifted i know that ..but he was super heady..he could find different windows to throw the ball into..

Henne will be great next year..I dont see us missing the Playoffs next year..

Remember we were the youngest team in the league at the start of the year..

We may still be the youngest next year with both starting corners..plus Henne not to mention if we draft someone else high ..and a possible change at FS

We are exactly where I thought we would be. Strength of schedule does make a big difference. We played very well last year and barely beat a lot of medicore teams. Nothing we did last year was dominant. Next year I will have bigger expectations!

Ask the Lions about their 2008 undefeated preseason. lol

Sorry,bro..
That means nothing to me..as a Dolphins fan I hold our team to
a higher standard than the Lions.

The preseason pointed out a lot of problems to me. We had a huge turn-over from the off-season on defense, we were young, inexperienced, and inconsistent. In those games (despite winning), I saw far too much wrong with this team to expect 2008's successful outcome. It hurts to admit and I was in denial for awhile, but I'm extremely proud of this team for surviving all the adversity of inconsistency, injuries, and bad coaching calls to possibly make it to .500.

GO PHINS! HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR 2010!

After seeing this team with a dominating defense the past few years, but straddled with a lack luster scoring offense.....I though this year when we started to actually put some points on the board.....that we had finally achieved some balance.....

Didn't happen.

The last time we had a scoring offense and a dominant defense....was in 84 when we went to the SB and lost.

I sure hope we have that balance next year....we are so close.

Do you think the teams who have perfect pre-seasons wait around with champaign bottles in expectation of being in that hallowed group? :rimshot:

Preseason success has always meant a bad season. ask Steve Spurrier.

38-7 in his first preseason game.

Preseason 4-1, regular season 7-9

I know that no stats support this but its more about the mind set. If a coach is trying to win Preseason games at the expense of evaluating talent the team will lose. and yes we did that this preseason. our starters got way to much playing time.

ie. Cameron Wake should have played a lot more.

I had hopes for this season too..But when your starting Qb gets hurt

Hurts, doesn't it. We know exactly how you feel. Funny, though, how last year most Dolfans didn't even want to acknowledge the fact that Brady getting hurt in the 1st game of the season had any bearing on your team winning the AFCE (and only by a tiebreaker).

I'm not sure what would have happened if Pennington was not out for the season due to injury but I will say that as a Patriots fan, I really did expect a 2 team race for the AFCE title. We would have won anyway :chuckle:, but the Dolphins would have been a team to reckon with in the playoffs.

I wasn't around to see it, but by most accounts, that defense sucked and is the reason why they didn't win.

I was around to see it and by the time we got to the super bowl, our defense was riddled by injuries and was on the decline. Plus no Larry Gordon (heart attack)(LB) and David Overstreet (car accident)(#1 draft pick - RB). Overstreet had incredible speed...think Chris Henry - Titans.
Bill Walsh killed us with Roger Craig screen passes during the game and Marino was harassed by SanFran's defensive line.Jay Brophy (rookie-replaced deceased All-pro Larry Gordon) was a joke. If Larry Gordon was alive and played in that game, I might have turned out differently.
Since we had been to two of the last three super bowls during that decade, all of us thought that we would be back in 1986.
Problem was that we hired a defensive coordinator named Olividotti and we started drafting the future duds Rick Graf, Eric Kumerow, etc., to replace all-pros.

Brady's injury cost the Pats but Matt Cassel played great.
In the long run, Brady is not the same player since the injury and the Pats peaked and are on the decline. The Fins will emerge as the class of the AFCE next year.
