What do you think is the reason our D-line under-achieved this year? I mean, the reason they sucked.
With JT coming out of Defensive MVP year, and the potential of guys like Roth, I wonder what happened. Should we have kept Carter?
Thoughts...

Carter was old and expensive, Truck is just plain old and it showed!:boohoo:

Early on I think the struggles were because we were playing Porter at DE more than Roth, then Holliday got hurt, and when Traylor needed to come out, Saoli was not ready to be the NT. Plus, Capers did not run the same D as Saban.

Alot of it also had to do more with depth. Last 2 years we had more proven depth coming off the bench. This year we had Ninkovich (2nd year player), Moses (Rookie), Wright (first year after missing rookie season), Saoli (raw rookie), and Fifita (2nd year?). As the season went on, I think the back ups got better, but they were all just young, and very inexperienced (plus a couple of them were not with the team through all of mini camp)

That really says a lot about the big need we have for a reliable and lasting NT. I dont think Soliai can fill that position, but I hope I am wrong.
I would not mind to see Glenn Dorsey drafted by us. There is also a need to draft a DE, someone who can learn from Taylor, if he remains with us this year. Chris Long would be a nice addition. How many years did Holidays signed the contract for?

Roth wasn't healthy at all this season. He was by far the most disappointing player on the team this year, but hopefully he can get better. However, if we draft Chris Long then thats that for him. Truck was just old, it happens.

dunno if Long means Roth is done, it just means he'll have a different roll. He might not be a starter, but he's a decent reserve.

That's one thing I'll say I really questioned RanCam about last year. We lost so much depth on the DL, and they pretty much took a defense that relied on rotation, and wanted a DT coming off of shoulder surgery (Wright), a rookie who only played 2 years at DT (Saoli), a couple UDFAs (Page who sadly went on IR, AGB who we cut, and Fifita) to help replace some very good players. I like Page, I like Ninkovich, I like Moses. I still have hope for Saoli, and I think Wright is gonna be a stud, but the management was just asking for too much out of so many young guys.

injuries to the LB corps and Soliai was still a year away from ready. Traylor struggled too. also, to be honest, Jason Taylor stuggled at first, as did Joey Porter. We will be better next season with a new NT an maybe a replacement for ZT.

I think it was our LBs ALL of our Starters were hurt most of the year the only one that played in all the games was Joey Porter

lack of talent

Roth gets engulfed by tackles

Boomer said that Solail was raw - which points to inadequate(to say the least) coaching

Rod Wright is good, but late to the game

Its been a long time since I have seen a Dolphin d-line that was so poor at defeating blockers. on pass plays the were engaged for 6 seconds or longer every time. on run plays they were either ignoring gap responsibility and/or being taken wherever the opponent wanted them to go(a Solail specialty)

we had no talent and no coaching, but other than that it was great

i'm not as worried as some guys on here about Soliai. NTs hardly do well early on. even Jamal Williams and Casey Hampton took a few years to develop into stud NTs. couple that with the fact that Soliai was extremely raw coming out of college, i'm not surprised he got pushed around a bit.

certainly, there's a need to bring in a veteran NT, but i'm confident that Soliai will pan out eventually.

I really think it was the coaching. Dan Quinn leaves and suddenly we seen digression across the board. That just screams bad coaching. Our youngsters were not getting proper tutelage, our vet's weren't getting motivated, and the line was overall uncoordinated. Granted we had some injuries to both DL and LB and some age related issues, but the dropoff was way too big just to be attributed to that. I think we have adequate talent but it's just not being tapped into as much as before. We really need a veteran NT who can come in so that Soliai can develop and a young DE but that's it. Drafting a NT won't necessarily solve the run woes right away.

We have Holliday for another 3 years. And I don't care who we pick up as long as its not number 1 overall.

IMO nick saban is the reason why the defense regressed, Their pathetic weak metality was finally challenged by a dictator and they responded. They were'nt mature enough to find their own motivation when satan left and CAMP CAMMY CAME IN.

I despise saban but he was one damn good defensive football coach.

this is how i wopuld line up our 3-4D including trading

Briggs Crowder Thomas Porter
Taylor Haynesworth Roth

Is that unstopable or what
