It makes sense. Both guys have a year and a half experience working together in San Diego. Cam always liked Cleo, and didn't want to see him get traded to the Dolphins when they were together in San Diego.

Cleo has put up amazing preseason numbers in his past several years under Miami and San Diego [I remember the topic CK posted and he has potential to be great if given the chance]. He has a really strong deep ball, and he has played pretty good when he was given the chance, even with the limited practice time he has had with the 1st team offense.

He is also a pocket passing quarterback, and that's what Cam likes [Gus Ferrotte, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers..].

IMO, Cleo has a real shot here to get the starting job with a good training camp/preseason.

Physically I think Cleo is what Cam is looking for in a QB so I would think it bodes well for him.

Question: Was it Cam who wanted him or Marty or was it both? I never read that Cam was crying about Cleo being traded but rather Marty

If Cameron is hired, I wouldn't rule out Lemon taking over al all. He's familiar with Cameron, his system, and what he expects / wants from a QB standpoint....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

You have to like Cleo's chances going into the off-season. I'd like to see a QB battle between Cleo and Culpepper, and a young QB that we're grooming for the future holding down the third spot. I'd cut Harrington before his March bonus comes due.

Ahhhh i still think Joey comes out of training camp as the starter. Daunte is ruined Cleo doesnt have the experience and if the recievers didnt have the droppsies all year, Joey would be the clear out starter, and im pretty sure if we get a coach with a brain he'll see that.

As Tony Montana would say: "Chu kidding me or what man?" Any coach with a brain would realize what everyone knows about Harrington, he's a career backup. I guess Philip Rivers suffered from his lack of experience this season under Cam. Get real.

Under Cam will it rain on Tuesday and never be warmer than 83 degrees on Saturdays? LOL, no one knows. First, we need to hire Cam, then we need to see what he does because you're asking something that's impossible to answer.

If Cleo starts Daunte is dumped for salary reasons. Daunte and his contract wont be kept around to play backup. Harrington may just stay if Cam goes with Cleo as insurance

I dont think Cleo would get the nod over culpepper. Im sad to say this but i just cant see the front office being to happy with Culpepper not being in there. i mean they DO have to sell tickets...

On the otherhand, if Cam likes Cleo, and we all know Mueller LOVES Cleo, you have to think he certainly has a shot.

Sorry, can't go along with this thought process. First, pre-season last year means nothing, he was going up against 2nd and 3rd string players. When he did start/play in the regular season games, he was just as ineffective as Joey, just didn't make as many mistakes. I do however see him developing into a very strong back up and us probably getting rid of Joey. I think Cam likes him, but as a solid back-up, not a starter. Sorry, if we have Cleo as our starting on 07, we will be picking again in the top 10 the following draft.

Really interesting concept. I hadnt even thought of the Cleo/Cam connection until now.

I definatly think it will make Cleo a lock for the #2 spot... and make Harrington a goner...

Have an "open competition" for the starting QB position. Whoever runs the new offense the best, should get the starting job in my opinion....

A player's name, or past history {good / bad}, should mean nothing right now, we just need the best QB for the job. Culpepper? / Harrington? / Lemon?, whoever get's the best results should start....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

That should give Cleo a little head start...

However, I'm not a big fan of the QB competition. It seems every year we are doing this... and every year our offense struggles with chemistry...

I want to decide on the QB... and just go with him from the start of camp. And I mean, if it is obvious you made a wrong decision, then swap 'em... but just try and stick with 1 QB for the whole camp.
