I guess I had some time on my hands, and decided to look at the last 20 years of our lovable Finz achievement...
Now I looked at the years under Shula (84'-95) and tried to compare the teams achievements against JJ (96'-99')and DW (00'-current).
Since we have been posting numerous threads about offensive and defensive production or lack of, I decide to use as a guide both Points Score (offensive) and Points Allowed (defensive) to judge as team's achievement. I would give my opinion based on the the teams strength (O or D)
Most of you know that during the Shula and Marino years the O-unit was the strongets part of the team. The team's FO spent the $$$ to sorround their star QB with talent. Out of the 9 years Dan was together with the Mark's brothers, the made it to the Post Season 4 times...
1984 (14-2)- Underachieved with so much scoring should have won the SB.
The highest production year, avg 32 ppg, out of any O-unit for a Finz team. They made it to 3 PS games inc SB.
The D allowed an avg 20 ppg.
1985 (12-4)
The O avg 25 ppg. They made it to 2 PS games.
The D allowed an avg 20 ppg.
1986 (8-8)
The O avg 26 ppg.
The D allowed an avg 25 ppg
1987 (8-7)
The O avg 23 ppg
The D allowed an avg 21 ppg
1988 (6-10) I believe Shula's worst season
The O avg 20 ppg
The D allowed an avg 23 ppg
1989 (8-8)- Overachieved?
The O avg 20 ppg
The D allowed an avg 23
1990 (12-4)
The O avg 21 ppg. Made it to 2 PS games
The D allowed an avg 16
