undrafted players impact dolphins

Bess was a surprise to me. Once Greg was injured he did a great job taking his job, but i got to say im glad he is taking part in as well things as possible and greg should be able to play first game of the season. It's going to be a great year for the dolphins.

just wrote an article about undrafted players having an impact in the nfl. focused in on the dolphins. i mentioned bess, polite, and carpenter from 2008 and ogunleye and welker from our past. let me know if there is anyone else i should include.

bess was awesome last year. amazing how a guy went from being undrafted, being considered too slow to be a receiver in the NFL to being a great situational guy.

youd think itd be easy to lock up bess right now if the fins really wanted to.

why lock him up. He has no leverage. If he plays well this year Im sure the team will look at locking him up. If he did not like his contract his only options are Canada and UFL which would be a pay cut. Makes no sense to sign him to a new contract at this point

You are correct, Bess has absolutely no leverage right now. Yes, his contract expires at the end of the season, but he will be an ERFA next offseason. All Miami would have to do is tender him the minimum contract and that locks him up for the 2010 season. He has no negotiating rights with other teams if we tender him.

Bess looks like he has a bright future, but Miami is in a position where they can let things play out with him and then decide if they want to lock him up long term.

He did great as a rookie , much better than I ever would have thought. That being said its a whole new year and maybe he does not do as well.

didnt know all that. seems like a good situation for miami

Here's some more UDFA you might want to add:

- Anthony Harris (1996) - Decent starter at OLB for several years

- Calvin Jackson (1995) - Started at CB and S for several years

- Joe Nedney (1996) - Only lasted a year at kicker for us but he's still playing

- Larry Izzo (1996) - Top special teams ace for a number of years

Definitely Camarillo. Going farther back, how about Larry Little?

didnt know about izzo and somehow forgot about camarillo. thx guys
