But the core of the problem is a quarterback who never had to win the starting job he held. At this point Ryan Tannehill, who led Miami to 5-6 record in the 11 games he played this season, can best be labeled as a bridge quarterback because he’s never carried this team, and he never will.
And if you listen to some of his teammates, it might be Tannehill and his inconsistent play that’s holding the Dolphins back.
“We’re not going anywhere with 17,” said one player, who wished to not be identified.
Before numerous injuries that cost Miami two starting offensive linemen, two playmaking receivers, the team’s top run-stopping defensive lineman, and a starting tight end, before Tannehill’s return from the capsule injury in his shoulder that forced him to miss five games, this team was struggling.
Anyone using injuries as an excuse is likely part of the problem because they probably had a hand in this makeover that took a six-win team in 2017 to a seven-win team in 2018.

If true, my money is on a defensive player saying this. I think it's funny that the belief was that with Tannehill back this season Miami would improve significantly when in reality he's only good for one more measly win than Jay freaking Cutler.
