This is obviously really random and isn't meant to be anything more than a fun fact but I hate Wes Welker and have too much time on my hands.

When the Patriots signed and then traded for Wes Welker, Bill Belichick said it was because the Patriots could never stop Wes Welker but looking at his numbers this doesn't really seem to be true.

In 4 games against the patriots Welker had 14 catches for 157 yards. That comes to 3.5 catches a game for 39.25 yards with zero touchdowns. He also wasn't anything special with punt and kick returns.

Welker was obviously a perfect fit for their offensive scheme but all that stuff about the Patriots being unable to stop him was a load of bull.

There's a lot of pining on this board for the long lost days of "Wes The Great" I won't deny his heart, but when I look at him I see a slightly arrogant, overrated receiver who benefits greatly from having Randy Moss on the other side of the field.
It's just a precious irony that he ran his mouth a few months ago about Asante Samuel leaving the Patriots. I believe the quote was something along the lines of "Asante chose money over championships." Now of course, Samuel has a chance to play for the title while Welker sits his overhyped *** at home  It wouldn't hurt my feelings any if that d-bag never tasted championship gold.

Yeah, I am really curious what kinds of numbers Wes Welker would have put up if they hadn't traded for Randy Moss as well.

Bill was referring to his abilities to make clutch 3rd and 4th down catches when the game was on the line not his overall stats against the Patriots.

Well he specifically said that they could never stop him when they played Miami. Welker had one big game with 9 catches for 77 yards and the other three games he combined for 5 catches of 80 yards including one game where he had one reception for -1 yards.

Welker was also the one who kicked a field goal, kicked a PAT, returned punts and kicks and caught passes all in one game against the Patriots a few years back. Also, the Monday Night game where we upset the Patriots 29-28 at home, Welker had a big 50+ yard punt return to the one yard line.

I wouldn't necessarily call him a Patriot killer but he had some significant moments playing against them.

That's fine. I have a feeling that Bess may make us forget all about him.

They should make an E! True Hollywood Story: Wes Welker. He used to be a team player, he kept his mouth shut played excelent where ever he was on the field. He still does the latter, but now he is ****y with a horible sence of entitlement. Come to think of it, he kind of personifies the entire Patriots organization.

Yup, the snow angel made me lose all respect for him.

Im sure Welker's work ethic would have blended well with this regime. But Camarillo makes me forget all about Welker.

toughness isn't on a stat sheet..... and that's all Wes Welker is about.

other than that.... the guy could break both his legs and I won't care. lol!

Tell yourself whatever you want. Wes Welker was a bad *** when he was a Dolphin. He was a light when the team was in complete darkness. Now that Miami is back in the light as a team, everyone wants to discredit what he was in that time. That's BS. You're doing what they call "Monday morning QB-ing".

Miami does have Bess now (and Camarillo). I'm not sure that either has proved to be as good as Wes YET. But they are close - real close. And Bess has a huge upside. He was a rookie this season!! Wow.

Save the knocks on Wes Welker though. When he played for Miami, he was the only thing keeping most of us glued to the TV.

I'm not saying Wes wasn't good for us but I was thinking about the whole Patriot killer thing and that simply wasn't true. That's all I'm saying. He wasn't a Patriot killer.

The Patriots recognized his potential. He is a really good football player. We just couldn't utilize him to his full ability. I don't blame Welker for leaving. It was good for both teams. We weren't going to pay him the money New England did!
