Updated Mock Draft 3/23/09

At first glance it may seem a bit strange, but he didn't improve his pro day numbers any and is still a 4.5 guy. He isn't as explosive in a straight line, but he is quick enough to get the job done. He might fit in well with what we do here.

I think it becomes a thing of need for some teams. The lack of a real stout LB market could help him slip a bit. And it depends what style fo defense each team runs too, its not like he has the speed to operate man to man all the time, so he may be bypassed because of that.

Instead of Conuficus...I'm just confused....if Jenkins is so bad and going to drop....why would the Dolphins select him?

Because he is still 1st round value top 10 value. And teams value workout in shorts waaaaaaay to much and they forget to actually watch what matters, FILM!!!

Ps. Dont be surprised if the lions select Sanchez.

I expect them to select a tackle first and then a QB.

I never said he was bad. Therefore your confusion should be short lived. It is just that he may not be as explosive as other candidates and he may be vlaued differently as he cannot play man to man that well, and would be better in a zone. None of that makes him a bad player.

A player dropping can actually have little to do with talent, or whether they are a bad player. Suppose every team in the draft in the Top 10 needs a defensive tackle. Even if there were 10 DT's that were worthy of the Top 10 not all of them would be selected, just based on scheme alone.

Andre Smith isn't a bad player, but he has dropped like a small stone recently. His attitude and worth ethic did that, and those had little to do with whether he is in fact a bad player.

Dwight Freeney is a great example of the opposite being true; a player rises based on scheme rather than just talent, even though he has tons of it. Freeney was not where near ranked as high as he was taken and I still remember Mel Kiper saying he was a reach.

Every year there is a top player that people thought would/should have gone much earlier, then get drafted much later, and this time because there may be a run on a certain position (O-line, Linebacker, D-line, WR), then some premium players will start to fall, and Conuficus has him as the 2nd player at his position behind Vontae Davis, who has been said to be higher on some draft boards.

If we were to get Jenkins at 25, this would be a VERY happy Miami staff.

I was somewhat expecting, and hoping Tyson Jackson would be the pick the way the mock was progressing. Nothing wrong with Malcolm Jenkins though, I'd be very happy with him at 25. When the season ended he was considered the top corner by a mile and lock for the top ten.
