Baltimore’s victory over Dallas has eliminated Miami’s hope of winning a wildcard, making the Jets game absolutely essential to Miami’s playoff chances.

As we all know, 11-5 wins the division for Miami. This makes a wildcard both unnecessary and impossible at 11-5. (Also, Miami cannot get a first-round bye this year, no matter what happens.)

Making the playoffs at 9-7 is already impossible mathematically.

That leaves 10-6 as the only scenario to consider, and only as a division winner.

If the Dolphins lose to Kansas City (then beat NY), they would still win the division if New England loses once (Cardinals or Bills).

Miami cannot reach the playoffs without beating the Jets, no matter what else happens.

Sunday’s games

Miami can neither clinch a playoff spot, nor be eliminated. (The same is true for the Jets.)

The Jets-Seahawks game has no direct bearing on Miami’s playoff chances.

A Pats loss would eliminate them from the playoffs entirely (unless the Jets-Fins game ends tied next week).

Wins by the Jets and Fins would eliminate New England from the division race (barring a Jets-Fins tie).

Thanx for the info. Hopefully next year we will clinch a playoff spot early. The playoff picture can get so confusing.

Now lets all hope the Patsies lose this Sunday, and that would set up the ultimate do or die matchup next Sunday, regardless of the results of the Miami/Jets games this week.

Ya that would be nice. Man im so nervous im gonna be so upset if the phins dont make the playoffs even though this year was pretty cool....

This season has been a success no matter what happens the rest of the season! :D

I still can't believe we have a WINNING record this year!

Its pretty simple as far as I'm concerned. Win out or go home. I just don't see NE losing either of those last two games.

We have to play like we are in the playoffs right now. I watching Fox Sports NFL Show with Shawn Merriman and Eddie George, they said KC is 14-4 in December since 2001. Hopefully the crappy Chiefs show up tomorrow.

Yeah but 0-3 with Herm Edwards, I think. The past is meaningless, it's all about tomorrow

Pretty ironic that the jet game is meaningless tomorrow as far as we are concerned. I wish we were playing at 4 so we'd know if we needed to win or not depending on what the patsies do, jets will have that luxury. I hope Kurt Warner eats his wheaties in the morning

hey man. i knew all that info already but you broke it down very well for everybody. much easier to understand after reading your post. good job.

We've been in the playoffs since the the second buffalo game. We should be old hats to this tension by now.

Anyone know if Arizona has anything to play for at this point? Or is their seed pretty much locked?

Theyre locked it as either the 3 or 4 seed, most likely the 4. But you gotta figure theyre gonna come to play hard, cant go into the playoffs on a long losing streak and expect to just turn it on for the playoffs.
