With the signing of Hakim and Liwienski, and the loss of the Denver pick, it was necessary to re-evaluate the draft picks. Despite signing Hakim, I still love Higgins in round but I've dropped the OG in round 2. So here it is, my updated realistic mock draft. It isn't sexy, but fills a lot of needs with talented players. Without further ado, here is my updated REALISTIC mock draft:

9. (1st) Levi Brown, OT, Penn State (Unless Quinn's available)
40. (2A) Ikaika Alama-Francis, DE, Hawaii Projected at 47
60. (2B) Josh Wilson, CB, Maryland Projected at 67
71. (3rd) Johnnie Lee Higgins, WR, UTEP Projected at 73
104. (4th) Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State Projected at 106
166. (6th) Allen Barbre, OT, Missouri Southern Projected at 184 (third best LT in the draft IMO)
201. (7A) Jessie Daniels, SS, LSU Projected at 204
210. (7B) Antwan Applewhite, DE, San Diego St. Projected at 218

There you go, rip away. Once you are done ripping, please, show me YOUR seven round mock that doesn't reach UP for every player and that will get us a QB, fix the OL, and give us depth at DE and CB.

Thats only realistic because every pick is a reach.

With the signing of Hakim and Liwienski, and the loss of the Denver pick, it was necessary to re-evaluate the draft picks. As much as I loved Higgins with the third pick, we now have one draft pick and one less hole to fill, so I went with Josh Wilson instead. So here it is, my updated realistic mock draft. It isn't sexy, but fills a lot of needs with talented players. Yeah, I already know, Staley is a "reach" at 9, but the guy has jumped from 41 on many boards to 21 on Kiper's top 25. Without further ado, here is my updated REALISTIC mock draft:

9. (1st) Joe Staley, OT, Central Michigan Projected at 21 (If Quinn and Brown are gone)
40. (2nd) Ikaika Alama-Francis, DE, Hawaii Projected at 47
61. (2nd) Josh Wilson, CB, Maryland Projected at 67
71. (3rd) Trent Edwards, QB, Stanford Projected way too low at 100
104. (4th) Baraka Atkins, DE, Miami (FL) Projected at 110
166. (6th) Allen Barbre, OT, Missouri Southern Projected at 184 (second best OT in the draft IMO)
201. (7th) Antwan Applewhite, DE, San Diego St. Projected at 218
210. (7th) Mark Fenton, C, Colorado Projected at 221

No way we draft Staley at number 9. No way. It's Quinn or Brown.

If they are still on the board, of course.

I just don't see Staley going top ten no matter what happens. Personally, I think Levi Brown would be a minor reach at nine, so Staley would be giant reach. I think he is a good player and would like to see us trade down and get him, but nine is way too high for him.

As for the other picks, I know you are being more realistic than almost any other mock I've seen, but most of those picks are slight reaches. Some good prospects should slide to us in the second round, happens every year.

Yes, I agree 100%, and if I were drafting I wouldn't lock myself into this projected draft and would naturally look for those guys that fall. This is realistic if everyone falls where they are supposed to. I have yet to see a mock for all 7 rounds where half the picks aren't reaching UP for guys that have no chance of falling to that round.

I knew nothing about Alama-Francis. He looks like an interesting prospect. I kinda think we would be better off looking for a DE/OLB tweener (Spencer, Moses, Woodley) rather than a DE/DT tweener. If we want/need a guy like Alama-Francis, why wouldn't we look at Jamaal Anderson in the 1st? I think he would be better value at #9 than Staley, and then we could look offensive line in the 2nd.

Still like the Atkins pick in the 4th though. I will be very happy with that one if we are able to grab him.

I love that idea, the problem is that there seems to be a big gap between the OT selections available for the first round (Thomas, Brown and Staley) and the OT selections available in the second and third round (Ugoh, Yanda, Free, Marten, and Harris). I don't think there is that drop off with the DE position and I like the fact that Alama-Francis can drop into coverage and has speed on the outside, I think he would fit well with our defense. If it were up to me I would trade down in the first round and select the first round OT later plus pickup another draft pick.

wow. unbelievable. you drafted each guy a round to early. and drafted everyone off potential. because non of these guys have shown to be anything great or some of them even good in college. most of those guys have talent though. but if you draft off that alone, which is exactly what you did. your going to have a draft full of busts for the most part.

Actually NO, I didn't draft them a round too early. If you drop any of these picks to the next round they will be gone for sure. You need to go back to madden too.

1. Staley projected first round
2A. Francis projected second round
2B. Wilson projected late second early third round
3. Edwards projected late third early fourth round but will go much sooner
4. Atkins projected late third early fourth
6A. Barbre projected late fifth early sixth
7A. Applewhite projected late fifth early sixth
7B. Fenton projected late sixth early seventh.

are you related to joe staley? phanatical

Ha ha. Nope, I just think he is going to be a great LT and if Thomas and Brown are gone a great LT is worth a first round pick. I'm tired of seeing our QB's blindsided and stripped of the ball.
