(I did not know Minor signed with the Rams)
"One of the hardest positions to find in our defense is a player at the outside linebacker position that has the ability to do both things  rush the passer effectively and be able to drop into coverage," Capers said. "Joey has the combination of the size and the athletic ability we feel can do that. He's been asked to do that throughout his career.
"We feel that he certainly will be a good complement to Jason Taylor on the other side. I think as you look at the upper echelon defensive teams around the league, most of them have two guys who can rush."
The Dolphins also have only re-signed one of the 14 players who entered the offseason as unrestricted free agents  nose tackle Keith Traylor. Players who already have signed elsewhere are fullback Darian Barnes (Jets), tackle Damion McIntosh (Chiefs), and running backs Travis Minor (Rams) and Sammy Morris (Patriots).
The switch from McMichael to Martin seemingly stems from the latter being more of the type of pass-catching tight end that new head coach Cam Cameron wants in his offense. McMichael, a solid all-around tight end who has caught 200-plus passes combined in the past three seasons, signed a three-year deal worth roughly $3 million following his release.
