â€â€Defensive tackle Manny Wright has yet to get activated for a game this season but Saban said the rookie is "one injury away" from receiving playing time. A 2005 fifth-round supplemental draft pick, Wright had a horrible training camp that included an incident where he broke into tears after being yelled at by Saban on the practice field. But the 313-pound Wright has lost 22 pounds since the start of training camp and is learning how to better play defensive tackle after being drafted as a raw prospect who left Southern California before his junior season because of academic problems.

- There is also a bit on Frerrote and Seau.

I really think Manny is going to turn into a good player. It's going to take a couple years but he has the talent to be a playmaker, and he's got good coaches to help him progress. He's got a bright future here IMO.

I thought the other DL guy that was drafted and is on IR looked promising.

He was HUGE. I think his name was Vickerson. (??).

Yeah, Kevin Vickerson.
He looked really good but tore his ACL. :(

I didn't know that Wright lost that much weight. I know that he lost some, but I figure that it would be about 10 pounds or so. Glad to see that Wright is caring about his future and he should be an improve player to watch in 2006.

Honestly if he is active for any games this year then Nick's doing a damn good job with this kid. He was always supposed to be a project with a flyer for this year.

Last I heard, Vickerson didn't tear it. However, I am not sure if that was the final word or not. I know he is on IR, which stinks because I truly thought he was going to be a factor this year. What it did do though was keep Zgonina, Traylor, Holliday, Carter in the rotation and they have played pretty decently.

Holliday last week seemed to almost be a "spy" on Brooks. Everytime I looked he was in Aaron's face and stopped a couple of his scrambles early to to prevent a big gain. He has been a pleasant pickup.
