Paraphrased. USA Today Sports Weekly Playoff Ed., Jan. 4-9

2006 Record: 6-10
MVP: Jason Taylor (1st), Zach Thomas (2nd)
Burning Question: Will Ricky Williams return to complement Ronnie Brown?

With Nick Saban departing for Alabama, the Dolphins may go on a defensive approach, but they will need a coach that fits Culpepper's style, which means vertical passing, and efficient WCO like the Eagles and Falcons run. Possible candidates that fit this category are Steelers' OC Ken Whisenhunt, Vikings' DC Mike Tomlin, and the 49ers' secondary coach, Mike Singeltary. Also, will the new coach give OC Mike Mularkey and GM Randy Mueller another season on the staff?

What went right: Jason Taylor becoming DPY in the last 18 seasons.

What went wrong: Starting Daunte Culpepper while he still had knee problems.

Free Agency/Draft Questions: Will Joey Harrington and/or Cleo Lemon return to backup Daunte Culepper? Will the Dolphins organization trade, or sign, a quality receiver or DLman? Dwight Freeney is a possibility, pending if DC Dom Capers returns.

Key Game(s) this Season: vs. Titans (won 13-10) and vs. Bears (won 31-13)

Geez, when a key game was beating the Titans 13-10 WITH Kerry Collins at QB, you know the season was bad.

They didn't include our 21-0 throttling of New England. Go figure.... :rolleyes2

who is mike-danlian tomlin-son?

ada bing...
thanks for the update... most is already known in these circles...but still opinions are welcome regardless...

i didnt see cam cameron's name on your wishlist.... might I ask why not ?
i do like wisenhunt, and mora jr....

however i think until the big tuna officially announces he'll be back in big D, then we cant rule him out.... also, i hear good things about mike singletary ...he has alot of former player, and coach support...on the reports i've heard anyway,...

yo, good piece though..

Mike Tomlin is the DC of the Vikings. Cam Cameron will probably go to the Cardinals or Raiders, and he won't fit there. Thanks for the appraisel

I thought the same thing when I read that.

I think that the raiders will be unable to find a HC willing to take the job and will just have to go without this season. Cant see anyone even remotely willing to take that job over the Miami job. Zona seems to be down to Ron Rivera and Norm Chow.
Mora the Younger and Tuna the Heftier, just ugh. Talk about a great leap backwards.

Wow.....Taylor has been doing a lot better then I had originally thought....DPY the last 18 seasons

I'm no offensive guru, but does vertical passing and WCO in the same sentence as he used it make sense?

Vertical passing was the scheme Dennis Green and Mike Tice used in Minny. However, Culpepper also does well in the WCO, and must be used like Vick and McNabb. That's why USA Today put that in there.

So which one is it though? Which one does Miami need, since I thought the two were different? I kinda like the vertical pass scheme which is what we've had and been trying to do the last few years right?

Vertical passing is over the middle, incorporating the TE, and the #2 WR running deep middle routes, and post. The scheme is usually pass, pass, run.

1. Using the TE in the passing game
2. The #2 WR running Short Slant routes
3. The Backs running screens and flats
4. The #1 WR running Post
5. Little use of the run game, but requires max OL

Exactly!!! WTF are they thinking???

No way we get Dwight Freeney.. Rather spend the money on Nate Clements, Asante Sameul or Adalius Thomas
