V.Davis VS S.Smith

In 10 years, when we look back, who do you think will have had the better career? Who are you rooting for to be a little better than the other? Of course as hard core fans we want them both to be great, but inside you're pulling for one to be just a little better than the other. Which one and why?

Smith, as I am always a fan of the underdogs. But I do believe these two will become the next Terrell Buckley and Sam Madison

Vontae...the guys just looks like a gamer...brings outstanding speed and agility. Physical tools are as impressive as anyone on our roster. 2 picks (technically one was on a 2pt conversion) against BRADY in two games!!!!

I say Davis because he competes for the ball harder and he's a better tackler. Smith will be a solid starter but I don't think he has the potential to be a difference maker. He lacks the aggressiveness.

I am pulling for both, but I think Vontae Davis will end up being a little better. It would be nice to see Smith balling though, because if he was great people would really notice because of his size.

THIS IS MY OPINION.... S.Smith is not a playmaker and never will....He is a terrible tackler and takes terrible angle... I don't see S.Smith in a Dolphins uniform past the 2010 season..

I don't know.... I'm one to never look too much in that "twitter bull$#!t" but I remember on Smith's twitter page he kept saying how he isn't going to do much in the off season. Just relax and chill. People were asking him if he was going to work on his game and he was very ehhhhh.... about it. He just doesn't seem like he has great desire to be better. You can just see that in Vontae. His drive on the inside is just pouring out. Smith.... not so much.

This is only my opinion though.

Not gonna bash you at all, but I think that's a little too negative and a bit unfair. Yes Smith is not a good tackler right now, but we do have to remember he came into Utah as a WR then switched to CB as a sophomore and entered the draft early. So this past season was only his 3rd year playing CB. He's still very raw, but he did show good coverage skills all season. He's gotta work on getting his head around quicker (there were about 4 or 5 times that he could've had an INT if he turned his head) and he does need to work on tackling, but he wasn't that bad. Now the only guy with Smith's size that was really good I can think of was Mel Blount, and Smith isn't that physical. HOWEVER, I think he could be a taller version of Bobby Taylor (who was 6'1 I believe)

Vontae got burnt more, but he's more of a gambler. IMO Vontae could easily become a bigger version of Antoine Winfield (a very underrated CB his entire career, and when healthy probably was a top 5 CB in his prime).

I honestly feel that both will become very good players for us. Vontae IMO will be team captain within the next 3 seasons. I'd love to keep both as long as we can.

both will be all pros in their careers and are different types of dbs. Sean Smith is a shut down corner and her showed his abilities all year he gave up very few tds and was thrown at the least he took reggie wayne out of the game and just about every big game receiver he faced. davis will be a much better t buck he is the spitting image but more aggressive.

This is a tough one. Vontae Davis plays faster and looser. But, he makes more glaring errors, and much more often.

Sean Smith plays safer and more sound from a coverage standpoint, makes fewer mistakes but also makes fewer big plays.

Will Vontae Davis be able to stop making all those glaring errors while still playing fast and loose? Will Sean Smith develop the comfort level with the speed of the game to start making more big plays?

IMO, the answers are yes, and yes. But to what extent? I have to point to what these players were back in college, because a good understanding of where they come from is needed to know how far they can go.

Sean Smith was a BIG PLAY guy in college. More so than Vontae Davis. He had 9 interceptions in his only two years playing cornerback...ever...prior to this season. Remember that ridiculous one-hander against the Saints in preseason? That's what he has in him, when he gets a little more comfortable with the speed of the game.

Vontae on the other hand was a guy that would give up the big play and have these glaring mental errors, but also make big plays tackling and with 6 picks in his final 2 seasons.

It's funny but right now Vontae is known as the gambler, the guy that will make huge plays but also make more mistakes. Sean Smith is known as the more solid guy that can't make big plays. I see that reversing. I think as Vontae gets more mature he'll get more disciplined, and his number of big plays will sort of moderate a little, while Sean Smith's number of big plays will climb as he gets more comfortable with the speed of the game. But, because of his physical limitations, he also could give up some big plays.

As for who will be better...you know, it's cliche but people keep talking about it like Sam Madison and Pat Surtain and I think that's a good comparison. I can't tell you which of those two was better.

Couldn't agree with you more CK. I also think it more depends on what type of player you like versus who you think will be better.

I think Davis is and will always be the better player between the two. Not saying Smith won't develop into a solid corner, but Davis just seems to have "it". He potentially could be a multiple Pro Bowl cornerback.

I see Smith getting around 5 picks next season. Don't know who will be better, but QB's will have to make quicker reads next season. Nolan's D's force TO's, and Smith and Davis should benefit.

I think we will see big things out of Davis this year! Especially with Nolan coaching him!

((Buckley???))Set your sights a bit higher

How about Pat Surtain and Sam Madison
