Scott Norwood can sleep easy tonight. The kicking choke of the 90s has now been eclipsed by the choke of the 00s.

No he's not. Norwood was at least close on his attempt.

i dunno... Norwood's WAS the Super Bowl, and was closer...
wrong, Norwood's was a 47 yarder...outdoors. Vanderjerk's was 46 yards, in a dome...and like Robfins said, Norwood's barely missed, vanderjerk's was wide right by the width of a football field.

I thought he meant "closer" as in "closer to being good", but maybe I'm wrong.

Right, so this is even more embarrassing.

Vanderjagt's kick would have only been good if the goal posts were located outside of the back right corner of the end zone.

I remember the vanderjagt choke against Miami in the playoffs back in 2000(ish). That one was much better.

wasn't that from like 54 yards though. Hardly a choke

Yeah. Plus, Wildcard and Conference games get remembered as well, but, for the most part, Divisional Round games don't. Probably because it's usually a fait accompli (80% of home teams win).

You know, Vanderjagt gets at least 9 dome games per year, and the Colts generally drive fairly close to the end zone. If you replaced him with a merely decent kicker with a strong leg, you could probably get very close to his accuracy numbers and massively upgrade his kickoff distance. Then you wouldn't have freaking Jose Cortez occupying an additional roster spot. It's not really a concern now, but it will be if they ever want to develop depth.

i stand corrected... :goof:

i hate when the kicker gets all the blame for a loss. even in vinatieri's case, which is the opposite, really, he doesn't and shouldn't get all the credit. the colts should not have let themselves get into that position, and a 46 yarder isn't a gimme, even indoors.

I'm waiting for Peyton Manning to call Vanderchoke an idiot once again. :D

that should be good. i think that the comments vanderjagt made about manning a few years back had some validity, but he should have kept them to himself. he's gonna get a lot for this...
