Vegas Betting Odds On Dolphins

I haven't been looking. All my focus has been on golf and college football. The NFL stuff is plug and play. I have to make some adjustments for college teams every year.

I do look at the season win over/under numbers. In recent days there's been recoil on the Dolphins. Instead of a steady stream of under money there were a few moves in the other direction. For example, 5Dimes moved 20 cents toward the over. It went from 8 under -185 to 8 under -165.

In the larger scheme of things, don't see where 5 dimes is gonna matter much over the next few weeks. Watch for a whale or two to enter into the picture. No fact, just opinion.

I sent my yearly bet out to my friend who lives in Vegas and he put my $200 on Dolphins to win it all and got me 60-1 at Union Plaza. On back of ticket it says all winning tickets over $1,000 must be cashed at casino and not mailed in. So it looks like I will be making a trip to Vegas come early 2015 to collect my $12,200. I have been making this bet going on 20 years now and hope one of these years I win before I die.

Thoughts on our Canes?

Somewhat similar to the Dolphins. Desperate need to see some truly great players out there, and not hard trying mediocrities. Otherwise the adjustments simply don't work. There is only so far you can adjust Tony Chickillo. Florida State doesn't rely on adjustments. They are sending a flock of guys into the early NFL draft each year. Miami needs to restore that level. This year there are candidates like Chad Thomas. He needs to be the real deal. Some of the recent edge types haven't fully panned out, like McCord. I still have hopes for Mohammed.

Defensive tackle has been a disaster for years. Golden has flopped in recruiting that position. This year the numbers are better but I doubt there's a special player. I'll be watching Moten but of course he's a freshman.

That's the problem overall...youth. Miami figures to lose top guys like Duke Johnson and possibly Ereck Flowers next year. Then you're essentially starting over again, with improved young talent but not much blue chip veteran leadership alongside. Given the quarterback situation this year I don't expect anything beyond a minor bowl. Williams got hurt but he's journeyman caliber. I hated everything I saw of Olsen in the spring game. Now he's suspended. I have more hopes for Kaaya the incoming true freshman. The transfer Jake Heaps might inherit the role since nobody else is available. I'm very familiar with him due to betting on his games. Small arrogant guy who is a pocket type. Tends to force things into coverage. Not accurate. Then once things are going bad he resorts to cheap underneath throws. It equates to extremely low yards per attempt, in the high 5s to low 6s. I think he can surpass that level here but obviously it's not a good sign.

One intriguing battle is at safety between Deon Bush and Dallas Crawford, who has moved back to defense this year after playing behind Duke Johnson at running back last season. Dramatically different styles. Bush is a big hitter but not particularly active. He was hampered by hernia surgery last year. Crawford trusts his instincts and races to the ball in a flash. That creates big plays in both directions. Vulnerable to play fakes and double moves. But at least Crawford brings energy out there. The coaching staff loves it.

A feel good story will be the return of Malcolm Lewis to top form. He was overweight and a shell of himself last season, after the devastating injury at Georgia Tech early in the 2012 season.

Made my yearly deposit at top bet. Currently they have Dolphins and Jets at 28-1 to win AFC and 60-1 for Super Bowl. Bill are 30-1 and 60-1. Guess Vegas thinks we all don't have much of a chance.

Interesting. Top bet also has future bets for AFC east title. Even though the have jets and Miami as 28-1 for AFC champs they also have Miami as 6.5-1 for east as compared to 7.5-1 for jets to win east. The Bills are 8.5-1. The Patriots are -400 meaning you have to bet 4 dollars to win one.

The win over Patriots lowered the odds on Miami winning AFC Championship in NFL futures. Started season at 28-1 and are now 18-1

I think thats right where it was when they first released the long term props.

Odds are even in Vegas (pick'em) to -1 Bills. Generally the home team gives -2.5 to 3 ....so all believe this to be a toss up against the Bills
