I thought I'd pass this info on to everyone. Yesterday on SI.com there was an article about the Vegas line for number of wins. I'll try to explain this as best I can. The total wins for the Fins is "9", the over and under (how it's bet) is over -150 Under +120. What this means is in order to bet on the Fins to win more than 9 games , you have to bet $150 to win $100. If you bet $100 on the under and win you get $120. This confused me for years  But the Vegas line is saying that the oddsmakers don't want you to bet the "over", and want you to bet the "under". To make this even easier, the oddsmakers really think that the Fins will win more than 9 games! :D The -150 over was the second highest, Dallas was -160. Noone probably cares, but these Vegas people are in it to make money, and these odds are very favorable for our team in terms of doing well this year

It's nice to get in on the odds early in the offseason. I laid 25 bucks down on Miami to win the superbowl this year on one website (odds were 25-1) right after they picked up D Boston and Feeley. And since then, the odds are down to 20-1 I believe. The way people are betting, 5 teams in AFC with better odds than Miami: New England (6-1), Indy (12-1), Baltimore and Kansas City (16-1), and Denver (18-1) are currently better odds than Miami (20-1) and Tennessee (20-1).

Yeah, I read this as well. I was thinking about putting a hundred or so on every team's over under for win totals next season. Maybe I could put all my useless NFL knowledge to use and make some money off it. But having bet many times in Vegas, I'm sure I'll end up pissed as always.

I actually bought a ticket for the fins to win the superbowl a few weeks ago in vegas. Their odds were 12-1, I wish I could have gotten it at 20-1, but they were a little bit lower at 12-1.

Back in 95 I intended to put $20 each on the Jags and Panthers to win the conference and another bet to win the SB I forget what the odds were but they were high whatever they were, I didn't make it back to the sportsbook before I left. Needless to say that was the year both of them made it to the championship games, I was dying during those games, thankfully niether team one and It saved some serious depression.

I was thinking about betting an over/under, but I didn't realize that was the way it worked. Thanks.

Knowing the system that is in place is good knowledge, not betting within that system is just plain smart. What the odds tell me is that it's a fairly good bet the Fins will win 10 or more games. The oddsmakers want everyone to bet the under, thus the odds and more money for them.

I found tennesse at 15-1 and Seattle at 19-1. Miami is at 21-1 on this site, tied with Denver by the way. This site has 6 AFC teams with better odds to win the SB...

And if Miami wins 9 games you are SOL...

One thing I`ve learned in all my years as a Dolphins fan, is don`t bet on them. I completely leave them alone when I make my weekly picks (got a sister in Portland, Or, and you can bet on the NFL in Oregon through the state lottery). You think Miami breaks your heart every year with their onfield performance.....start betting on them, then you`ll really be frustrated.

I used to live in Oregon and bet on football there. It's not good football betting. You have to win every game on the ticket to win any money. Rarely, did I get my money back by the end of the year. I find online better, where you can bet a parley, get 3/4 games right and win money, is a much easier way to come out ahead in gambling on football. But when I bet on Miami, if it's not obvious, I won't bet at all, better than betting against them. Which means the last 2 years, no bets on Miami when they're favored.
