Nick Saban could make an addition to the Dolphins' defensive staff. He has offered a job to longtime NFL assistant and close friend Rick Venturi. Venturi was with New Orleans last season and has spent time with Indianapolis, once serving as an interim head coach.

???????

I just saw this on BenMaller. Has anyone else heard this? What happened with all of the Capers talk?

I think it's just mangling the same old news. Ben Maller aint exactly known for it's breaking NFL news.

Venturi hasnt even been fired yet, last time I checked.

he said he was offered "a job" not the coordinators job! :shakeno: :shakeno: :shakeno: :shakeno:

Maller didn't report it, he just put a link to a story from a newspaper.

Ben Maller-

"A source said coach Nick Saban is trying to add another assistant to help oversee the Dolphins defense. Saban is friends with former Houston coach Dom Capers and New Orleans defensive coordinator Rick Venturi, who may not be retained by new Saints coach Sean Payton. Other defense-oriented coaches on the market include Joe Vitt (St. Louis), Donnie Henderson (New York Jets), Ted Cottrell (Minnesota), Jim Haslett (New Orleans), Vic Fangio (Houston) and Jerry Gray (Buffalo). Jim Bates, who was the Dolphins' defensive coordinator from 2000 to 2004, will not be back at that post at Green Bay, but a source said a return to South Florida is unlikely. Bates is reportedly a candidate for defensive coordinator with St. Louis and Houston."

Talk about pushing the panic button. It's the Sun-Sentinel article in the link at Ben Maller. It says nothing about a job offering to Venturi. Dont wast your time. This thread title is absolutley wrong!

A job not the DC spot

Well he won't be filling our DC spot now that we have CAPERS!! :woot:!!

Venturi was the secondary coach at Cleveland with Saban and Belichick...Mel Phillips is rumored to be retiring this year...

I think Venturi may have been offered a job as our secondary coach, provided he does not get retained at DC by Sean Payton.

Makes sense. Whomever were to fill that position should be able to work closely with Saban, given Saban's affinity for the secondary.

Didn't I read that Mel has refuted that rumor and indicated that he will be staying on with the Phins?
