Vernon Carey making Progress....

Im suprised while everyone is talking Jay Cutler, Sam Madison and Ricky talk nobody has mentioned anything on how Saban thought Vernon Carey made Progress, he did say nothing is sure for next year.
We cant say Vernon Carey is a bust now and maybe Carey will be the RT of the Future. What do you guys think?
 
I think Carey and Hadnot are the only 2 current starters on the line that will be with us for years to come.
 
Jeno James looked good as well but i dont know how much longer he will be with us.....
 
The News going around is that Alabi will be starting next year at LT
 
Only news I've heard is that Alabi is showing promise. I'd hold off on penciling him in as our starting LT for now.
 
Even that is great news. If he pans out and we nabbed a solid starting LT in the 5th round, thats cause for celebration.
 
Alabi probably needs another year to bulk up. Carey looks like he may be pretty good at RT after all.

Saying that Carey is not guaranteed to be the RT next year is a smart move by Saban. I am sure Saban deep down believes that Carey is the starter, but by saying that it allows him some room just in case he gets a steal in FA or the draft.

Personally, I think Carey will be our RT for many many years, and Hadnot will be our Center for many many years.

He isnt going to guarentee anything to anyone... that is his style... you have to consistantly earn your spot.

I do believe though that he has a very bright future with us. I'm just not too sure exactly where it will be. I really liked him at LT, and I think he is better suited there... He is much better in pass protection and did an amazing job starting for being basicly a rookie (I mean, he got no experience last year... and lets face it... he didnt learn **** from Tony Wise). And he wasnt powerful enough in the run game for a RT IMO...

However, if he really is coming along at RT then I'm cool with that too. Either way... the kid is talented and has all the physical tools. IMO, he is going to be a stabilizing force on our line for years to come...
 
I think we can say that he wasn't a bust. He did well this year, average in run blocking at times and great at pass blocking most of the time.

But I think unless your Ronnie, Zach or JT your spot on the team is basically always up for grabs.
 
well the question taht comes to my mind is that if he was doing such a good job and showing such promise why did he get benched often or shoudl i say sat out and came back in often with mcdougle? i mean mc D sucked big time but still had the oppurtunity to play b/c vernon was screwing up as well. I dono whats going on to be hoenst but imagine after all in hte next 2 years or so our alabi, carey, hadnot and 2 G become one of the top 5 Off line in the game. taht would be amazing and such an achievement.

They wernt putting in McDougle because Carey was screwing up... they were putting him in hoping that he would be able to play.

Carey was winning the battle for LT during Training Camp. However, he had to be moved over to RT because McDougle was terrible... The combo of McIntosh/Carey was alot better than the combo of Carey/McDougle or Carey/McIntosh... Carey is much better suited to play RT than McIntosh... so Carey got moved over...
